Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Still need help

    Still need help
    I can create 3 web components and put them into a table in a a5w page accross the page horizontally.
    But they do not link together. They are different PO headers
    see jpg (PO Numbers in the header do not match) the Customer information is 0132 and the Vendor Info id 0130.
    I also need to show the line items for the PO in the Customer Info.

    If I use a grid linker to link the web components, then I cannot put Horizontal only vertical.

    I need to put Customer and Vendor information accross the page in frames and have them link together.
    Thanks

    Re: Still need help

    It gets difficult to generalize with so many components on one screen, but basically you need to properly filter each component so it displays the correct information. But I suspect you know that, so I don't know why they display different information.

    If I were doing this, there would be a lead off screen that asks what PO you want to view, and a submit button. When they submit I would place the PO number and anything else important into session or page variable(s) and use that to filter all of the components. I also wuold not have that many components on the same page, would make use of the View method in a Grid to show related information.

    I think grid linkers are problematic and I have never used them in a final application.

      Re: Still need help

      Steve:
      I do have a main page.
      After I log in it takes me to a main page.
      (see jpg below)
      Everything works on this main page except the edit PO link.
      The print PO link (on the right of the screen) prints the correct PO
      The left side menu works
      The Edit PO goes to the correct screen but only filters the first web component -not the others-

      Thanks

        Re: Still need help

        To figure it out, we would need the code behind the Edit PO link, and the filter and argument expressions for all misbehaving components.

          Re: Still need help

          Charlie,

          You may be going to the PO edit page with a filter.

          A better solution is to set up the link like Steve suggested, with a session variable, something like

          PO_Edit.a5w?session.PONum={poNumber}

          Then, in each component, set up an argument, say argPONum and set it equal to session.PONum. Then create the filter in each component to filter on the argument, say

          poNumber=argPONum

          Then each component will filter on the correct PO number. You can do the same with the detail lines.

            Re: Still need help

            Ahem, I would never do the part about the PO# in the URL. It exposes the key field in the URL so that now anyone can enter a guessed value and open someotherguy's PO. Instead, I've become a big fan of the new UUID field*. So I always have a UUID value for every record, then the URL might be mypage.a5w?id=myuuid. If I need it to be a session variable, I set it in the A5W page, converting it from a page variable (in the URL) to a session variable.

            * Actually I use normal character field of length 32 because its more versital, and populate it with remspecial(api_uuidcreate)).

              Question on session variables

              To All:
              If I put
              <%a5
              dim session.PONum as C
              session.PONum = ""
              session.PONum = "P08301-0135"
              %>
              at the beginning of my a5w page it opens correctly.
              It I change the PO Number, and It will Open correctly to the new number.
              So it must be how I am setting the session variable.
              When I click on a hyperlink I want to set the session.PONum to the value of the hyperlink.

              The hyperlink is set as a link and is a calculated field called PO_Number1.

              What is the code and where do I put the code.
              Events ?????
              session.PONum = {PO_Number1} ????
              Thanks
