Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    H/T? Copy Value from Dialog

I have a dialog created that I am using to print product labels from. What I need to do is create something below the dialog that copies one of the values typed in and paste it below the dialog. From there I will change that items font to a bar code font that our scanners will be able to scan.

I am looking at some sort of callback code, but does not seem to work.

    Code:
    mybarcode = "currentform.controls.Stockcode.value"

    ?mybarcode
    Any Suggestions?

I already have the font (that I believe will work), I understand to use this on certain machines, that those machines will need the font installed. This is not something the public will see, just a few selected in house machines.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

If you want it to be barcode font, you should look at ImageMagick, which is a free command line tool that works well with WAS. Otherwise as you already know, any fonts shown on a website will only work if the user has the same font installed on their computer.

    What barcode is it?

      Hi Andrea,

Will look at the information you gave me. I do believe a font will be all that's needed for this project though.

The barcode will be the stock code that is already on the dialog. I may add another text field and see about changing the font to a barcode font and have the workers type it in. Will see if that may work for the time being.

Thanks for the response and info
      Thanks!

As long as you only use internally that should be OK - I was asking what barcode because some codes like EAN are encoded rather than just representing a text string in a different font.

Oh I see, actually we have been testing out on different types. Probably a normal barcode 39 would be fine. All it is is just the string. We are using wireless Wasp barcode scanners attached to tablet pcs to inventory some special items. We are using our own created barcodes for the job.
          Thanks!

There is also a great solution that is free and does NOT require fonts to be present - in a web control, just have a custom control that links to:
            Code:
            <img src='http://www.bcgen.com/demo/linear-dbgs.aspx?D=YOURNUMBEROFCHOICE'>
This seems to work with WASP scanners on tablet PCs at least from a failed trial I did (they ended up needing it for laptops with different scanners and that did NOT work)

Re: H/T? Copy Value from Dialog

I have done some searching across this forum for most of the barcode topics. But most of them are pointed to reports or such. What I would like done would take place in a simple dialog that the info will not be saved until after it is printed.

I really like that "http://www.bcgen.com/demo/linear-dbgs.aspx?D=" but do not think It would work because it would download the picture BEFORE a value would be placed within the stockcode line, and probably would not recheck for a change to the stockcode.

How possible would it be to create a label that would mirror the other field at all times?

I have also attempted to change the field to a blurb/text box/text area, and just change the font to barcode, so that the worker could just type in the code and it would show up in the barcode font, but that did not seem to actually use the font like it should have.

This is an example of what I am trying to achieve. The barcode would be created based upon the value placed in the stock code input line. The tag can then be printed.

                  I got this error.

Yes I had a few failed attempts at looking at this from different perspectives.

                    http://72.18.202.84/scc/testprint.a5w

This is how I would like my dialog to look, once the info is filled in, the barcode would reflect the information the stockcode value. Then it could be printed and submitted into inventory.

Perhaps this is my downfall, that I would like to have it happen before the information is saved into the database. I have even changed the barcode input to a text area and changed the options for the font, that way the worker could type in the box and it would font it as a barcode. But the text area did not format the text being entered when I tried it out.
                    Thanks!

Well that page, I took out the "copy stockcode to barcode" button. That was a javascript function copytext that I had attempted.
                      Thanks!
