Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Search

    Hi...

I'm new to Alpha 5 and I'm trying to get a search working on a grid component. I've added the component...made sure I had data in the fields that I am going to be searching on and tried the different search styles. Everything I've tried yields all data from the table. In other words...if I search my short description field by putting D* in the field I get everything...MPL...EPL...MM...etc. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Joe

    Joe,
Could be 1001 and one things,
If you have a small demo app of what you are trying to do zip and attach post it up. Then me or someone else can quickly examine it for you.

Thank you for your response...I don't really have "demo" app per say...I've just been trying to learn this software. I have one simple table...no links...four fields...an id, short description, long description, and date created. I'm tying back to a MySql server...connects...can add data...delete data...just can't search. No "custom" programming...just using the build in grid options.

Ok this is one area I have zero experience with, at least 10 yrs since I last saw anything with SQL.
Normally the search component works effortlessly, almost by default, you add it and it works. generally the customization is to remove features. I can only guess that it is some simple setting, Unfortunaetly there are too many settings that could do this for me to hazard said guess.

Have you set the Search Style? In the second box down on the far right, you have a "0" as the default. However, there are other numbers 1-4 that can be used to define the type of search string. Example, the number 2 means "Is Contained In".

Ok Knocked up a demo dbf as per your specs,
              Put in some dud data,
              ,
The component as was needed the search ability ticked,
flicked off some options and it searched like a eagle
              As per pic,
              --
So what is the status of you indexes, have the tables been packed and indexes rebuilt?
