Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Record TIME?

    Hello

    I've created two fields in my table to record the date (of type DATE) and one for time (of data type TIME) in an attempt to log the records creation/insertion.

    I have no problems with the date, works as expected, however the TIME function is not being inserted. (always remains blank)

    Here is what I'm doing, and only DATE works as expected.

    (This is in the EVENTS of grid with detail view (where insert is done from))

    function BeforeValidateNewRecords as v (DataSubmitted as P, Args as p, PageVariables as p)
    with PageVariables
    DataSubmitted.DateCalled1=date()
    DataSubmitted.TimeCalled=NOW()
    end with
    end function

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bill

      Re: Record TIME?

      Thank you..

      Hmm... strange..

      When I do it like you suggest, the field goes completely blank and nothing is recorded.

      When I use .TimeCalled=NOW(), I always get todays date, and a time of 12:00:00 am

      Like so
      05/22/2009 12:00:00 00 am

      We are obviously missing something here... any other suggestions?

      Thanks,
      Bill

          This is what I get in the interactive window

          ? time("", now() )
          = "05/22/2009 03:05:39 17 pm"

            Bill

            Do you have the option to convert the 2 fields into 1 field of type time?

            It's a new option that may be easier in the long run (and with this...)

              Re: Record TIME?

              time() is not the time on your watch. It's the time on you watch for the day on your calendar. There no "time" without day-month-year. We are used to answering 'what time is it' because we mean for the day we are both at. We ask, relative to the day we are asking. But time() includes the full reference.

              make one field named CreateTime, as a time field, and then populate it with

              CreateTime = session.timestamp

                Thank you!

                session.timestamp works like a charm!

                Bests!

                  Re: Record TIME?

                  I think this is flawed...seems every time I add a record it works but if I edit that same record it blanks out the date and time 00-00-00 12:00:00am Anyone else experience the same result?

                  Thx
