Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

IntRAnet e-comm project - professional help may be required

    History and Project Scope:
I work for a grocery store chain. Our IT department cannot fit this project in to their schedule, so I (the business unit person) was elected to take this project on because I brought up the idea (first mistake lol) and know a little about Alpha and web development/hosting. I showed a sportsweb test site to a fellow employee that works as a deli/bakery buyer. He liked the basic sportsweb system and felt it was a great fit for our project. So, we have set off to customize the app for our internal online shopping needs.

We plan to setup around 200 users (100 retail locations with t-1s to central) so that they can login in and add deli/bakery bakery items to their cart and create a order for internal products needed during Christmas and Thanksgiving. We call this "booking" and order and we normally have these 200 people drive to a central location to see the products and order via paper.

We have about two months to get this live and working with very little glitz and glamor required..

Here is my question to start this thread...

How do I turn off any requirement to submit a payment in the ecommerce "alphasports" application? I just need the end user to finalize/approve their order in the existing shopping cart and have the system capture the data so that I create an export file by store order on the back-end.

    John,

Based on our experience with Accounting and Accounting Systems for over 25 years and our Mobile order entry products for the last 10 years for route and sale people the Alpha e commerce solution is over kill for you.

Your "People", who need to "Order" really need a simple grid to create the order and if they are ordering the same items then you should use a "Template Order" this way you set the template to just enter the Qtys ONLY saves time and on large orders that is very helpful. And of course send email confirmation to ALL that need it and post the order into you Accounting System for Processing that is what I would do. Our expertise is in this area our Mobile OE integrates with 35 Accounting packages. I have looked at the Alpha Commerce App especially the "CART" with others on this board and as it is full and done well, it is over done for your needs. We like the KISS principle.

Stand back and take a look.

      Nicholas,
What sold our deli/bakery department was the UI and the ability to click a small picture to view a large picture.

      What is a template order?

A simple grid, with pictures, is exactly what they want. They were initially going to send out 200 excel spreadsheets, but didn't want to have to open 200 return emails to consolidate the numbers in to a larger order for the supplier.

I felt like Alpha would quickly give use what we need with a few "minor" modification. My familiarity with Access is what lead me to Alpha because I feel like I can support it better given I haven't a clue with .net and Microsoft's free development tools. At minimum, I get how Alpha is working.

However, I am open to other options given this project is important to our company. If I can get this project done and done well, I could be a hero. I am guessing I would be superman for at least five minutes or so!! lol.

If that doesn't work out for you, you might also want to consider having
        Alpha Professional Services
do the project. They have a team that can get the project done efficiently and cost effectively.

The ideal and easiest way I can think of to make the payment method better for internal applications/users is to create another payment method called, "ORDER NOW". Once selected it doesn't require any additional information (credit card #, dates, etc.). It will approve the fake payment method and provide the other default functions of the standard checkout process. I would also want to keep the e-mail and print invoice feature.

See attached pic of current screen.

            John,

            See my PM.

Frank as a side note I called Professional services with a $50k project and they did not even call me back I called a second time and again no call. I don't swing at the 3rd pitch I go home.

Hooked up with a trusted source on this board and have been happy ever since.
            and on my 6th project.

            Cheers

John - you can do it, it just will take a lot of work. If you leave the Payment Method set to Other (under Customize on the Desktop home page), and then create a new payment option on the processing.a5w page, you can direct the user to a new 'processing' page that skips any of the real payment options. That's all I can offer for now, going beyond that is real work!

What is the best way, or just the way, to sychronize the web database changes with the desktop development environment?

Copy the tables from the web app to your desktop table area. See this post for an easy way to accomplish this: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=79817

So, I just need to copy the updated .dbf files on my web server in "C:/data" directory over the top of the files on my desktop and I am synchronized ...correct?

Additionally, please confirm that I don't have to worry about the .cdx, .ddd, .ddm, .ddx, or .fpt ...correct?

What about all the websecurity .dbf files under webroot?
