Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

I have an A5 Application Server with a godaddy SSL certificate. Everything seems to be working fine with the server and pages however 10% of the A5W pages display the following message when they load:
    Security Warning
Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?
This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire webpage.
    Yes or No?

I am using IE8. Everything displays and works properly whether I select either yes or no. Does anyone have any idea of how I can identify what is causing this to appear for some of my pages? Is there some way to force the server to only deliver content via SSL?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

You need to check all images and other referenced files in your pages. If the URL for any of them explicitly specifies http:// for the protocol, you will receive this warning.

Re: SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

Thats exactly what I was thinking, however the only image (a logo) on the page also exsists on all the pages that are working properly and it is linked the same way on all pages. I cannot find any other references to external locations in the a5w pages. Am I correct to assume that the a5wcmp componenets cannot contain referenced files?

Someone else created most of these pages so it is proving difficult to identify the one little line of code causing the problem.

Use Windows or a freeware search tool, or better yet Alpha's search from Edit > Search in all... and search for "http://" and "www." to find the offending component/page.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve, no results found. If there is something in the pages like that both the computer and I cannot find it. I think it must be a different problem than just referencing an unsecured page as I am 99% sure that is not happening after going through all of the code manually.

Re: SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

You could install something like HTTP Debugger Pro (free) and watch the actual HTTP going to/from the server and see what's being requested on one of the problem pages.

You're never going to believe this but...HTTP Debugger Pro showed that I am only sending/receiving via HTTPS. It didn't show anything coming over HTTP. So is it possible this could be a bug with the Application Server?

Or a possible bug in IE8, have you tested other browsers?

Re: SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

Excellent point. IE7 behaves the same way, the message is a little different:
This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.
Do you want to display the nonseucre items?

Doesn't seem to be an IE8 issue, I'll test a few other browsers later to confirm it isn't an IE issue totally, however I would guess unlikely.

how about the little icons like lookups, navigation controls on grids etc?

navigation is the same on all pages so i dont think that is it. also i probably would have seen unsecure http traffice for that on http debugger pro and there wasnt anything unsecure.

Re: SSL not delivering 100% secure pages

Since IE6 Microsoft browsers have been less sympathetic towards ssl certificates and there have been a lot of reports about such issues. Using an IIS server this does not occur unless the 3rd party involved is considered of really dubious preposition.

David, have you resolved the issues in this thread? I am having the same issue with no apparent reason. My V9 site was working fine until I recently made a change to one of the pages and re-published. Now I get the pop-up any time that specific page is requested.

Actually, the pop-up only occurs when using IE7. I installed FireFox and found that I don't get the pop-up. I also tried http debugger, and there are no references to "http://".

No, never figured this out. We have since stopped using this application as our clients didn't feel 'secure' using a page that said it was potentially unsecure (even though it really was).

I was having this problem as well. By comparing old pages created in v9 to new pages I created in v10 that work, I found out that you need to add the following line at the top of your a5w page:

                              <!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.01 transitional//en" "http://www.w3.org/tr/html4/loose.dtd">

Somehow this must force it to stick to w3c standards and makes IE happy. However, as I found out in my page, you may need to tweek your css if the page doesn't look right.
