Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Appreciate the suggestion. I'm using Alpha 5 v11 and recently experienced this printer error code 30 after a Windows 10 update. I've tried your suggestion and run Alpha as Admin and it's now allowing me to save pdf to a file again. Thanks!

    thanks Al, I googled it
you go to the alpha5.exe in the alpha folder
    rightclick
    compatibility
    set for all users
    run as administrator

I'm going to do that for all installs - got about 20 runtimes for big client

Al - I resolved the issue on 2 v12 installs
but on a v11 install, the only way I could get it to work was by right-clicking on the shortcut and picking "run as an administrator"
so it is a permissions issue, apparently.
so now the question is how to make shortcuts automatically "open as administrator"

Run Alpha as admin, then print.

That appears to solve the issue. Running Alpha normally after that seems to work for printing then.

Or do like you did in another thread re-install Alpha, which will re-install the print drivers.

Via the Printer you can call up the about box,
AND then note you can open the licencing info.
    - Note on mine that it is all blank, this I suspect is because Alpha Injects the licence info at Print time. Thus your Ayumuni Printer can only be used by Alpha.
-- On the machine I had problems with the -30 Activation error, I just purchased a licence from Ayumuni for Ver 3 Ayumuni printer.
Note : I had to solve the issue in a real tight time frame, (Annual Reports needed printing)
And it has worked ever since.
    -
To be honest there are probably 1001 tiny things that could cause this problem to occur, So I don't guess anyone at Alpha can help much.
Using a resource editor you may find the dll, that spits out the code, and turn this onto an always on status, but then the process may well work differently.

We haven't moved it to a new OS. We are running this on a Windows 2000 server.

    Stan
I kind of thought that I couldn't print to it, but I thought that the fact that it said it wasn't activated might be a clue.

Alpha Five Printer is not a normal print driver that you can print to or print a test page, etc. It can only be accessed by Alpha's functions that create the desired output.

I have never experienced the code -30 error until I just tried your example....

try and print a test page from the Alpha Five Printer that I get the following error message:

Is the new OS you moved to 64 bit by any chance?

Re: Printer not activated, error code -30

Guys. Thanks very much for all the suggestions. But none of those seem to work. Let me re-state the problem, because I may have jumped onto the title to this thread, when the problem may be just slightly different (maybe not).

When a user runs the application and when they go to print a report, the following is the actual message received in a user's browser, superimposed over the application background:
    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
'Alpha Five Printer' (for creating PDF, RTF and HTML output) is not installed. Re-install Alpha Five

It is only when I go to my server's Printers folder and try and print a test page from the Alpha Five Printer that I get the following error message:
Printer not activated, error code -30

I've restarted the server several times. I've re-installed the A5v7 WAS and I've also installed the standard A5v7 on the server as well.

I've deleted the Alpha Five Printer from my Printers folder (which indicates that the model is an Amyuni document Converter 2.50) and then re-installed the A5v7 WAS. I've gone to the Program Files folder on my server and run the InstallAmyuniPrinters.exe file (which added Amyuni Document Converter to my Printers folders), but that didn't work either.

To unistall the Ayumuni Printer, I go through the Control Panel - >Printers msc Setup, The Printer Should be Found as something like version 2.51 or 3.00,
It's the same process as uninstalling a real ink spitting printer.
For installation- In Programs-> A5vx Application Server -> there should be an exe InstallAmyuniPrinters.exe, just run it. And note you may need to drop UAC on some OS's for it.
_-> No warantee give for this advice, I've just done it per desperation

    Hi Steve,

i also experience the same thing and the only way i know to resolve it just by restart the server and them everything is fine (but we quite often (once in a week) got that message and have to restart the server :< )

    regards,
    Andy

Ive seen this resolved by installing the regular Alpha Five on the server, which installs the printer driver.

I am getting the same error - Printer not activated, error code -30

If it is indeed a serial number issue, how do I go about re-installing and activating the Amyuni printer?

I've re-installed Alpha 5v7 WAS and restarted the server, but the error remains and I cannot print my reports. The reports had been printing just fine for the last couple of years.

However, this error began when we had a major crash on the Dell server running the WAS. Several other databases and programs had to be re-installed during the recovery process. Everything else in the WAS is working fine except for the print to PDF.
