Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

The security settings for this server are missing or incomplete

In a recent thread Steve wood was kind enough to supply me with the code for a one column template.
    pls see http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...light=template

I decided to create this on my PC as a "getting to know" exercise.

All seemed to go well until I tried to publish then I received the error

    403 Forbidden
The security settings for this server are missing or incomplete.

The pages all run in Live preview (execute) OK and web security in not on.
    Any ideas please?
    Many thanks
    john

    Questions questions questions, :)
Did you Publish the files or just copy them,
The magical file a5_application.a5i is meant to be created everytime you publish, Apparently it contains some useful stuff for the server,
Please make sure it exists in you webroot,

Re: The security settings for this server are missing or incomplete

Is this your first time publishing this project to local webroot for a test? You cannot publish just one file to a new project and test. You MUST publish security files even if 'security is turned off'. The project will not operate at all without those security files present. Live Preview does not take security into account at all.

        Thanks for the help
        I have published items previously
I created a web project Profile for this.
I think I published everything for this exercise.
        I am attaching two pics.
        Hope they say all!

Re: The security settings for this server are missing or incomplete

Its missing all of the websecurity files, you have not published security files.

And, also there should be NO files such as alb, alm, alx, etc in this folder. The only way they could get there is if you are publishing to the same folder as where you keep your development files.

Also, delete the guid.securitysettings file from both your development location and your publishing location, and republish. I think those locations are one in the same for you, so read the paragraph below. The value in guid.securitysettings file MUST be unique and if you copied it from elsewhere, it won't be. Alpha will create a new one.

You MUST, ABSOLUTELY, ALWAYS keep your development files in safe place, and NOT publish to that folder. A lot of people make this mistake and eventually completely ruin their project by publishing over development files - they are DIFFERENT after publishing.

I keep development files at c:\_masters\project1, etc. and I publish to c:\a5webroot\project1, etc.

Re: The security settings for this server are missing or incomplete

            Thanks for the excellent advice
            The page is now working.

The development files for OneColumnPage are all in D:\A5\OneColumnPage
The published files for OneColumnPage are in D:\A5Webroot\OneColumnPage so there should be no mixup

            I deleted Guid.SecuritySettings from default.webproject and
all files in D:\A5Webroot\OneColumnPage to start with a clean sheet
and published from D:\a5 to D:\A5webroot
            So that worked
However when I look at D:\A5Webroot\OneColumnPage I can still see
            OneColumnPage.alb OneColumnPage.alm and OneColumnPage.alx
            Regards
