Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Log Records Viewed

    I have a web page with a grid component that returns many record results. However I hve my properties set to display one (1) record at a time. The user mas to press the NEXT button to go to the next record.

    How do I write a log of each record viewed.

    My table.open code works fine.

    But I cannot find an event which will write for each record viewed.

    Thanks.

    Re: Log Records Viewed

    What kind of log are you hoping to write?
    1) # times viewed
    2) who viewed
    3) other...

    What does your "table.open" currently do?

    I'm not sure you can accomplish this with your current description.

    Below is how I count # times a specific record has been viewed:

    dim tbl as P
    dim qry as P
    tbl = table.open("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts")
    query.filter = "Postnum="+quote(Postnum)
    qry = tbl.query_create()
    tbl.change_begin()
    tbl.Viewsday = tbl.Viewsday+1
    tbl.Viewsweek = tbl.Viewsweek+1
    tbl.Viewsmonth = tbl.Viewsmonth+1
    tbl.Viewstotal = tbl.Viewstotal+1
    tbl.change_end(.T.)
    tbl.close()

    ? jobtitle + " has been viewed " + lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","postnum="+ quote(postnum),"Viewstotal") + " times." + "<BR>"

    I also run a daily, weekly and monthly script that clears out the viewsday, viewsweek and viewsmonth fields.

      Have you looked at the raw log that the server will generate?

        Thanks for the replies.

        I want to log "who" has viewed the record. This is a Web Application. My client wants to know what Customer Service Reps are looking at what Accounts.

          Re: Log Records Viewed

          If those viewing are "members" then this should be pretty easy.

          Create a "Views.dbf". Create fields such as vDate, vTime, vName, vPage.

          Then in the pages you want to keep track of place code such as this:
          dim tbl as P
          tbl=table.open("[pathalias.adb_path]\views")
          tbl.enter_begin(.T.)
          tbl.vDate = Date()
          tbl.vTime = time("", now() ) (or just now() read up on these)
          tbl.vName = registered users name taken from member's dbf or just session.__protected__userid
          tbl.vPage = title of the page being viewed. Create a variable based on the page's title <title></title> to be placed here.
          tbl.enter_end(.T.)
          tbl.close()

          Create grid or dialog to view!

            Re: Log Records Viewed

            This makes sense.

            Question? Do I place this on the HTML page wapped in an "a5" tag...or in a validate event on the grid?

            BTW: These are current members we will be logging.

              For your situation because you said, "who" has viewed the record...probably place it in the a5w page between the <%a5 %> tags under the grid.
