Security Framework has a setting called Page Redirect. You can set it to any A5W page and that user is supposed to be redirected to that page when they log in. But there is problem with this.

If you first go to a page that IS restricted, and are bounced back to the Login.a5w page, then the URL will have a parameter that looks like this:

login.a5w?np=index.a5w

When you log in, you will be taken to the page assigned to the var np, index.a5w in the above example. This is REGARDLESS of what you have set in secuity framework as the redirect page. I remember Jerry giving some advice on this like three years ago, but I cannot seem to find a way to guarantee that the user goes to the desired redirect page set in security framework.

I've tried to disable the value of np with 'delete np' in the header, but it appears this value is remembered by security even if you kill the variable within the login page.

Jerry provided the answer.

Again, where this is important is for all you guys that place a page just after login and expect the user to go through that page, maybe to set parameters or to redirect based on some logic. You CANNOT guarantee the user will go through that page unless you apply this fix. If they bookmark myaccount.a5w and go to that page, they will redirect to login.a5w and then go directly to myaccount.a5w once logged in, skipping anything you intended them to pass through after login.

So the solution is to change your redirect page -login from the page with the login dialog to some other page with nothing on it but the following:

%>

That gets them to the login page but kills the "np=" parameter described in my first post.

Here is what I tried and what happened. First I took the advice about creating an excel file of the file. I saved the file as a "97-2003 Workbook" excel file. with the .xls extension. However when I attempted to append it to the A5V9 table the program told me that it was not a 4.0 excel file. (Excel 2007 and Excel 2010 do not have a specific 3.0 or 4.0 excel type.) I attempted this 3 times making sure that I saved it in the correct type, that is an excel *.xls type file.
When that failed I created a comma delimited file with extension *.cvs and used append function of Alpha five. This was successful with small files. However when I tried this with a larger file (10,000 records, each consisting of only 3 fields, each about 25 characters in length) Alpha Five literally locked up and I had to start over. It was only when I divided the excel file into 11 parts each with 999 records or so, that was I successful. Is there a limit to how many records that Alpha Five can append at any one time? I would hate to have to do this 11 times just to add records to a table.

I think you posted this in the wrong thread, since it has nothing to do with the thread title. You will have a much better chance of getting this resolved if you post it in the correct place. The appears to be a desktop problem. I import from csv files on a daily basis without incident. Perhaps you could post one of your csv files or import operation so we could take a look at it.
