Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Menu and Flash movie

    Morning

On our home page I have a flash movie cycling through a few photos.
It's right under the menu so people won't miss seeing it.
But the dropdown menu won't lay over top of the flash. The menu dropdowns will be on top if I change the movie out for a static jpg photo in a grid component, but not if it's a flash movie just coded into the page.
I suppose that's why... the movie is constantly playing or just that it's a movie file.

    Does anyone have a workaround?
If not I guess I'll just have to drop the movie down a few rows until it's way out of the path of the dropdowns.

    sample page -> http://www.scphoto.ca/indexMenuflash.a5w
Select the Gallery or Appointment menu

    Thanks
    Duane

    Re: Menu and Flash movie

My simplistic sugestion is to just leave the first level of the menu and make a page for each link which contains the child links

          Re: Menu and Flash movie

I think this is a normal IE behavior with the Flash "ocx"
I guess browsers that use the applet are ok, but the ocx's will have the problem.
Fixing this might require browser detection and alternate behaviour for the two types of players.
Where you create the <OBJECT EMBED> holding the swf, I guess you will need to add an extra <param>
          http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/127/tn_12701.html
Suggest you have a look at the "Wmode" and consider "transparency"

            Thanks guys

Oddly enough it doesn't work for me with IE or Firefox on Windows XP

I'll try to give the wmode a whirl, but there are no transparency parts in the movie, if Adobe is meaning what I think they mean.

              Re: Menu and Flash movie

The transparency stuff at this level is refering to the Flash .swf on the actual HTML page, not The Flash, symbol or instances within the swf movie.
              IE or Firefox
Unfortunately with these and similar problems we start getting involved with vaugaries and discrepancies in relation to Browsers all too often
I suggest that for IE wmode="transparent" needs to be in the <Object Tag as a param value,
And maybe wmode="transparent" needs to be as a pair within the <Embed Tag
for Firefox and others that uses javascript.
              ---
Note: I believe some authors pake use of page layers to solve this problem, but that is beyond me.
