Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    memo text fields

    I have this html text(below)in a memo field and I need to place values in the variables (in red) from other fields from the same item. How would I go about doing this?

    <div align=center><form target="paypal" action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
    <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_cart">
    <input type="hidden" name="business" value="[email protected]">
    <input type="hidden" name="lc" value="AU">
    <input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="description">
    <input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="Stock_No">
    <input type="hidden" name="amount" value="Web_Price">
    <input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="AUD">
    <input type="hidden" name="button_subtype" value="products">
    <input type="hidden" name="add" value="1">
    <input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-ShopCartBF:btn_cart_LG.gif:NonHostedGuest">
    <input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_AU/i/btn/btn_cart_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal - The safer, easier way to pay online.">
    <img border=0 alt="" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_AU/i/scr/pixel.gif" width=1 height=1>
    </form></div></td></tr></table>

    cheers

    Re: memo text fields

    You will need to use one of the character replacement functions:

      I think the best one is Evaluate_string()

      So Where do I put this function?

        Where or when do you want to run the conversion? You could put it in a button, etc.

          Re: memo text fields

          I would like to run the function after I fill in the 3 variables on a data entry form for the particular table.

              Re: memo text fields

              So I put EVALUATE_STRING() in the button function

              Is the string "the text" I want to work on?

              and how do I specify where to put the edited text.

              I can have a play with the button genie but I thought I'd ask while I have you there :)

                Re: memo text fields

                The attached sample works. Remember, you have to put {curly brackets} around your variables.

                  Re: memo text fields

                  Great I get it now! This is terrific

                  It worked the first time but when I went to retry it it came up with

                  Script on push
                  line 9
                  tbl.change_begin()
                  enter already began

                  if I go out of the program and come back in it works again the first time again but not the second time

                    Re: memo text fields

                    Probably you put your form manually in change mode which is why you got the error. Put a parentform.commit() as the FIRST line of code. That should fix it.

                          Sorry to bother you again!

                          I am having trouble putting the code in my app
                          this is what I've put in and it says

                          Script paypal line 8
                          vBuy_now = tbl.stock
                          Property not found
                          tbl.stock subelement not found

                          this is what I put in the button

                          parentform.commit()
                          tbl = table.current()
                          vBuy_now = tbl.stock
                          vBuy_now = evaluate_string(vBuy_now)
                          tbl.change_begin()
                          tbl.stock = vBuy_now
                          tbl.change_end(.T.)
                          parentform.Refresh_Layout()
                          end

                          where "Buy_now" is the field being converted
                          and tbl.stock it the table that the form is made from
