Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    No one can tell without seeing the dialog, or at least the aftervalidate code. Diff type normally means something other than Character. Read up on convert_type() and when you might have to use it.

      Re: HTML Page in email body

      I have my aftervalidate code already in this thread. #10

      My error comes from pm.to
      ---> pm.to = CurrentForm.Controls.Sendto

      If I change it to a constant such as ---> pm.to = "[email protected]"

      It works just fine. But I can't get the user information from the control into the pm.to

      Thanks
      Eric

        add .value to your control;

        pm.to = CurrentForm.Controls.Sendto.value

          Re: HTML Page in email body

          Thanks Steve. That was it! One word..."value." And I knew this too just didn't think of it. Now I can also send html emails using dialog and include values from my controls AND related table.

          If eval_valid("session.Postnum")
          session.message = CurrentForm.Controls.Message.value
          ' takes values from posts table and create session variables
          session.title = lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","Postnum=" +quote(session.Postnum),"Job_title")
          end if

          dim pm as P
          dim message as c = session.message
          dim jobtitle as c = session.title

          pm.lrelated = .T.
          pm.from = CurrentForm.Controls.From.value
          pm.from_alias = "Social Service Network Job Response!"
          pm.to = CurrentForm.Controls.Sendto.value
          pm.bcc = "[email protected]"
          pm.subject = alltrim(jobtitle) + " " + "posted on Social Service Network" + " " + CurrentForm.Controls.Subject.value
          pm.qq = <<%html%
          <html>
          <head> </head>
          <body>
          {message}
          {jobtitle}...this is a test
          </body>
          </html>
          %html%
          pm.html_message = evaluate_string(pm.qq)
          email_send2(pm)

          Note where I merge message with pm.html_message above.

            Re: HTML Page in email body

            Earlier in this post, Tim suggested using evaluate_string() to replace variables with actual values inside a string. I made use of this in what was originally a more complex script.

            The magic is in the two FOR EACH loops. The first loops through each line in flds, and converts the string in to executable xbasic with evaluate_string(), and then immediately executes it with evaluate_template(). So, for example, executing the first line saves tbl.DocType to the variable DocType.

            The second loop takes each line and writes a string such as:

            HTML Code:
            <DocType>{DocType}</DocType>
            It's easy to miss that I use word() to extract just the first word of my "expression" as the variable.

            Then the final evaluate_string() swaps out the {DocType} for the actual value, yielding:

            HTML Code:
            <DocType>MyDocTypeA</DocType>
            The rest of the code creates a valid XML output.

            HTML Code:
            xmlfile = "c:\myfile.xml"
            lst = "" + crlf()
            lst = lst + " " + crlf()

            dim tbl as p
            tbl=table.open("tr_trust")
            query.filter = "Job_Id=" + s_quote(myfilter)
            query.order  = "Job_Id"
            query.opti

            flds=<<%txt%
            DocType		= alltrim(tbl.Doc_type)
            trustName	= alltrim(tbl.Trust_name)
            ExDate		= alltrim(tbl.Execution_mm)
            NotaryName	= alltrim(tbl.Notary_name)
            NotaryCounty	= alltrim(tbl.Notary_county)
            ExecCity	= alltrim(tbl.Notary_city)
            ExecState	= alltrim(tbl.Notary_state)
            %txt%

            for each j in flds
            	evaluate_template(evaluate_string(j))
            next

            FOR each i in flds
            	i = word(i,1)
            	lst = lst + "  <"+i+">" + "{"+i+"}" + "</"+i+">" + crlf()
            next

            lst = evaluate_string(lst)

            lst = lst + " </Main>" + crlf()
            lst = lst + "</Records>"
            tbl.close()
            tbl.query_detach()

            save_to_file(lst,xmlfile)
