Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Show/hide control on dialog component not working

    I tried a number of javascripts that reload the page. They did not work. When I manually reload it, everything is fine.

    Not sure how to implement your "dynamic content" suggestion.

    I am rebuilding the dialog component and still running into the same problem, even though I only have 5 questions on the component.

    I see a yellow triangle on the page(s) that has a problem, and when I double click on it, it reads:

    Linde: 15
    Char: 4
    Error: Object required
    Code: 0
    Page: http://webapps.alpha5host.com/math_quiz1.a5w

    When I hit refresh, the triangle disappears, and the page works fine.

    I did just notice that if I publish this on my server, it is fine:
    http://webapps.myvnc.com/c-net/math_quiz.a5w
    but on Firm Support's server is where the problem manifests itself.
    I have an email into Firm Support. I'll let you know what they say.
    Thanks.

      Re: Show/hide control on dialog component not working

      I'd post a bug report to Alpha on this.

      Also to get it going I would not go to a new page, I'd put the questions in the same dialog component hidden until the user elects to do the next and the next etc.

      Just put a radio button on the page the use the answer to with enable/display the questions - you can do this for each group of questions.

      In the Radio Button
      Name Group2
      RadioButton
      Character

      Choices Yes|1

      Initial Value No

      So in Group2 you would have in each questions enable and show/hide.

      Code:
      iif(Group2='1',true,false)
      You could also use Tab controls.

        Thanks, Peter.
        My only concern with using one page is that it would probably take too long to load the 60 question dialog box.

        I'll have to experiment with it.
        Thanks.

          Re: Show/hide control on dialog component not working

          Adding to the other suggestions, I'd suggest changing the third line to
          tbl.Q1_response = CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton1.value
          tbl.Q1_key = CurrentForm.Controls.Key1.value
          tbl.Q1_correct = if(CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton1.value=CurrentForm.Controls.Key1.value,.t.,.f.)
          tbl.Q1_code = CurrentForm.Controls.Code1.value

          The reason is that the value on the form is readily available, but I'm not sure about the value in the table since you are still in entry mode.

          Also, I was a little confused about the show numbers in the formulas versus the show numbers in the field name....so, if the field is show11, is the formula show11="Yes" or show1="Yes"

            Pat,
            Thanks for your reply.
            Good point about still being in entry mode, although I do not believe I have had any issues with that (yet????).

            In answer to the question, if the user is looking at question 11, they have the option to show the answer to question 11.

            The formula for the hide/show expression for that text box should be iif(Show11='Yes',true,false). The Radio button that should determine whether or not the answer is visible is called Show11.

            Thanks,
            Jay

              Re: Show/hide control on dialog component not working

              Well maybe this is a clue. Firm Support is on Build 1658-3088 dated 25-May-07. That's pretty darn ancient, or more correctly, neglectful unless there is some reason. There have been 38 patches to V8 since then.

                  I just know how to retrieve it live; or rather I guessed I would find the info at a particular addresss, and I did. But I'm not telling where.

                    Jay,

                    On review, that web address you provided is not at FirmSupport (http://webapps.alpha5host.com/math_quiz1.a5w). I inferred from your comments that it was. That above address is, as I said, on an older version of Alpha, but it is not a FirmSupport web server.

                    I apologize to FS for making the erroneous comment, I have no idea what version they are running. My analysis was for the alpha5host domain. No one prompted me to say this, I just had second thoughts and tracked it down.
