Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Export file with all Capitals in header

    Is there a way, using A5V8, to make an export file (ASCII type)have all Capital letters in the header (field names)instead of upper and lower case?

    It doesn't matter if I have all capital letters in the table design, the export alters the the case.

    My end customer insists that the lower case letters in the header cause the file to fail to import into his system. He says it is a Windows based system. I've never run into a case where the upper/lower case mattered on a Windows system, only Linux/Html.

    Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    John,
    I just tried this in v8 and all my fieldnames export totally capitalized....apparently just as your client wants/needs.

    So whatever your results, if it is not working, then omit the fieldnames on export and write back the headers via xbasic. Or leave the headers and replace them with xbasic.

    File manipulation such as this is actually fairly easy once the functions are found.

    There is more than one way to do this BTW. In your case I would export just as you have, then use the Replace Line function...using a text line that is the header that is wanted(comma delimited I believe).---I cannot remember the exact name of the function---could even start with an asterisk...

      I guess I took my ass-backwards pills today.

      I meant to say that I want the Upper and lower case but I get all Capitals.

      I've been trying to end this project for too long now and my brain isn't working like it should be.

        :D

        Well, here is something that could be used either way really--but assumes here that the header will always be static....could be made dynamic if wanted. Same with the Path. The replicate adds the spaces so will have to be changed to what you require as well.

        Code:
        dim Hdr_Upper as c
        Hdr_Upper="COMPANYNAME"+replicate(chr(32),46)+"ADDRESSADDR1"+replicate(chr(32),29)+"PHONE"+replicate(chr(32),46)+"Ssn"

        dim cc as C
        cc = file.to_string("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\ascii_test.txt")
        cc=*line_replace(cc,Hdr_Upper,1)
        file.from_string("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\ascii_test.txt", cc)

          Just curious Mike. Have you found some benefit to

          replicate(chr(32),46)

          over

          space(46)

          ?
          There can be only one.

            :D Absolutely!! As I have used both it comes down to the point that Replicate() came to mind when Space() did not!! (I was just happy I was able to remember one of them :) ) Thanks Stan for the reminder!
