Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Martin,

I have encountered this also. In my case the table was empty when I created a grid for it. When I enter the first record using the PC version of Alpha5 using auto form then it works after that with the Web form...

I hope this helps for you also.. regards, Ron

I tried to duplicate a problem by creating a grid on an empty table. It worked fine in my test. Perhaps you could send me the table and component that did not work for you.

            ok, this is fixed now.
you can work around the problem in the mean time (until the next patch is released), by finding the fields in your grid that are currently marked as NOT updateable and changing them temporarily to Updateable.

That will reveal a 'field to update' and 'alias to update' property. set these values to the same values that any of the other updateable fields in your grid have, and then reset the updateable property to False for these fields.

                Error with table pointer

We are recieving the same error, "Error with table pointer". Is there something else we should do? We do have labels which do not have the updateable option in the update settings. Should we change those to text boxes and do what you recommended in the previous post?

                  Error with table pointer

Today I defined a new grid (grid read only buth with updateble detailview) on a table and I got this error again.

I had selected all fields in the detailview. After deselecting the system fields:

                  <Rownumber> and <logicalrecno>,

the grid worked and I did not receive this error anymore....maybe this works for you also until Alpha has released the new release with promised fix.

                  regards, Ronald

                    Re: Error with table pointer

I seem to be another victim of this problem. I am still at the stage of building th e grid component. When I try to run the live preview to submit a new record, I get the error. How can it not find the table if I just loaded the field criteria from the table?

Here is what I suggest that you do to track down the problem.

Create a new, very simple grid, based on the same table that has the problem.
                      Confirm that it works.
Then, step by step, add options to the test grid, and after each step, confirm that it is still working. That way you will be able to identify what option you selected that is the cause of the problem.
