Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Security on Horizontal Navigation Menu kaput.

Good day. I have a horizontal navigation menu with 4 main choices: Base Files, Transactions, Work Requests & Logout. Each of these in turn have a number of a5w choices.

I have set the Security Level on the menu for Base Files, Transactions to "2" with the other two set to "0" as I want ALL users to be able to use Work Requests & Logout.

    I have set up 2 usernames with different levels: Manager = 3 & Crew = 0

The login process works as expected.

If I login as Crew, I would have expected that they would NOT be able to select Base Files or any of the dropdown choices. That is not the case.

Am I doing something elemental & missed how to set it.

Any leads to point me in the right direction is appreciated.

Zero equates to 'no security'. Set the Crew to 1 at login, and set the 0 menus the same.

Thanks. I know 0 is NO security but why can CREW with LEVEL =0 still open a menu selection on the nav bar where I set the security level at "1" in the a5wcmp page?

At least from my experience, once you establish security for your system, everyone entering via a login has to be assigned a specific security level, 1 through 8. No one should be able to enter the system without passing through the login page. If they do (if they can) and are not assigned a security level (e.g. has a level of 0), they have full access. Rather than saying "0" is no security, I should say "0" pays no attention to security. And, although this may appear to be a security-thwarting oversite, I actually think it is appropriate.

I now have security working with one problem. On the above menu, a couple drop down have a security of 3 while another is 0.

For testing I have setup 2 users, one with security level 1, the other 5. If we login with the user with 1, a shortened menu appears as expected. If we now logout & relogin with a new user with a higher security, the menu STILL stays shortened. The dropdown with the 3 does not appear.

What am I missing? What should I add. It seems I need some sort of reset.

          Thanks as ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!

The web page is probably stored in the web browser cache. When that happens, hit the refresh key on your web browser. It should correct itself with the refresh.

Your users typically will not have this issue, as they will be only using one log on, and typically will not be sharing the same computer.

Thanks for the post. That did not do anything. I will post the source for my logout & login later today. Maybe someone will see my problem.

We were missing some lines in the Login Dialog soruce viz security LEVEL. Once that was added. the security works as expected. Thanks for ALL the HELP.
