Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Unhandled Exception Forced Termination

    Using the latest Build.

Today for the first time I am getting these warnings, they happen when I am in form design and access the Action Scripting from a form button, different forms, different buttons. This has only started since the latest patch. (maybe only a coincidence), anyway these are the error messages:

    1. When I access Action Scripting:

"Script: a5_scripteditor-active line:179. An unhandled exception was generated."

    2. When I then exit the Action Script screen:

" Unhandled Exception. (Access violation-The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access)"

"Alpha5 will do a forced termination"

Perhaps it's nothing to do with A5 but any advice would be appreciated.

I also ran a forum search on "Unhadled Exception" and "Forced Termination" but nothing came up!

    Regards

    Alan

    Re: Unhandled Exception Forced Termination

my personal rule-of-thumb is that unless there is a feature in a new build that you absolutely MUST have, do not upgrade. You can go back to the last update. Also, make a small adb demonstrating the problem and send it as a bug report to Alpha.

Alan, I think Alpha Five has simply become instable, perhaps as a result of other scripts that crashed during development. If this were happening on my development machine, I'd close Alpha and reboot. -- tom

          Re: Unhandled Exception Forced Termination

I got his message on my VPS today. I tried to see if the site was running from my local browser and it times out an did not come up so I remote desk-topped into the server and this message from Alpha5 WAS was staring at me:
          "Alpha Five Unhandled Exception Termination
Unhandled Exception (Access Violation - The thread tried to read from or write to a
virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.)
Alpha5 will do a forced termination."

This same message came up a couple of weeks ago. I searched event logs and could not get any more info on what happened.
          Any ideas would be appreciated.

you can get that message from an error in a script. When I have gotten that message it was always a problem with my code. If you can get them to tell you when it occurred it would help you debug.

You can also get it when doing a load of changes all over the place (me, not you) and not Compacting, Exiting and restarting.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

I also encountered this same error.

                "Alpha Five Unhandled Exception Termination
Unhandled Exception (Access Violation - The thread tried to read from or write to a
virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.)
Alpha5 will do a forced termination."

After updating the indexes of all tables, the error went away.

I'm converting a V4.5 app to V11, and in 4.5 I had used the option "M" in a lot of queries - I got the abocve message, but when I did not use any query options the error went away
