Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

v10 Drop Down Browse not working

I have the latest build of v10. 2736-3523. I am trying to use the new "drop down browse" super control. It displays a grey box with nothing in it. It's not even a grey box - just a square grey image on the screen.

Checking alphasports to make sure it works there (I thought it did) and yes - it works fine on the customers screen.

        Hi Betty,

I have found the same thing and that is in A/Sports. See thumbnail.

I cant even get back into it to edit.

I suggest you report this as a bug.

I am unable to reproduce this issue with the latest release candidate (posted at the top of the V10 thread). I have some questions though.

On the right click menu, does the second entry say 'Supercontrol Designer'? If it does, does the 'Drop down browse' dialog show when you select it?

If you drag a new drop-down browse onto the form, do you get the same bug, or is this an old form?

Was there anything done that could have externally broken the column bindings (i.e. fields that drop-down browse was dependent on being renamed or deleted).

Re: v10 Drop Down Browse not working

            1) Yes. The 2nd option says "SuperControl Designer"
            2) When I select it, it does nothing.

New form. Old form. new table. old table. Doesn't matter.

I think my v10 is broken. I have other issues that also appear to not work (and finding more every day - yesterday I attempted to join to tables - that, too, does nothing).

I need to know how to correctly uninstall / reinstall.

I had v9 installed. Installed v10 into a new directory. On the "News & Updates" page it says I have 29 days until my trial expires. That led me to believe there was something wrong with the install. (If you look at the history of my calls, you'll see that I called about 2 days after installation and this was registered as a 'bug' as well - we were not able to resolve it).

I uninstalled v9 -AND- v10. Ran crap cleaner (ccleaner) to cleanup any remnants that might have been there. Reinstalled v10. It never asked me to register. But my license is still in there - I can see it when I goto VIEW > SETTINGS > LICENSE I see the license # there.

So I uninstalled again. Ran ccleaner. Used Regedit to search the registry for the license #. Not found. Reinstalled v10. It did not ask me to register. The license number is visible in VIEW > SETTINGS > LICENSE (and I did not enter it).

It hasn't been 29 days yet so I don't know if it's going to crap out or not.

Re: v10 Drop Down Browse not working

I was able to reproduce the the issue with Join - it appears that the wizard was failing - the fix was easy but won't be in till the next patch.

In the meantime, if you haven't tried this already - can you please download the release candidate:

              http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/Do..._patchBETA.exe

And see if you are still getting problems with drop-down browse.

              Thanks,
              Cian Chambliss

                Nope. That don't fix it.

How can I get a clean uninstall and reinstall from scratch?

Re: v10 Drop Down Browse not working

I suppose you could just go to 'control panel\uninstall programs', uninstall alpha five and try installing it again, But an install after a clean boot should have the same effect, so I think you will continue to see the problem.

Since the shipped customer forms drop-down browse appears to work for you, I am going to assume that this is a problem with the drop-down browse builder. The drop down browse builder uses a third party control (codejock property grid) - I am am wondering if that is failing to initialize properly - to test this, can you see if the form 'property editor' is working. In form designer, go to task-list pulldown menu / select 'Properties' if it is not already on - does the dock panel with 'Properties' update when you select different controls in the form editor?

Re: v10 Drop Down Browse not working

It does. But - when I first opened it there was nothing there - blank empty white boxes - until I started clicking on fields.

If this is a 3rd party thing; could there be a DLL somewhere that has not updated?

Re: v10 Drop Down Browse not working

                        Hi Cian,

I have found where the problem is happening.

If you select the SuperControl from the Form list Toolbox, draw the area on the form and then select the Dropdown Search Browse it does not work. If you select the Super Control at the bottom of the Toolbox then the Drop Down Browse from the list then it does work.

Also I noticed that the curser does not change if the control is selected from the form list but does when selected from the Supercontrol list.
                        Regards

                          Hi Keith,

You are correct - I get a control that on subsequent edits fails if I go through the supercontrol genie instead of selecting the entry from the supercontrols list. It appears that the 'base' control for the supercontrol is coming back as 'xdialog' when it should be 'field'.

Thanks for narrowing this down (I always select from the supercontrols section of the toolbox when I create controls).

Perhaps it might be a good idea to remove the button from the Form list?

                              Hi Keith,

I have just added a fix for this - the query genie was assuming that if a supercontrol was not based on an activex, it had to be based on an xdialog control - but dropdown browses are the exception that is implemented on a 'field' control - ended up being a two-liner fix.

                              Thanks,
                              Cian
