Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problems with Update Build 2783_3536

I installed the new build 2783_3536 and after examining it on my databases, I quickly removed it and restored the previous build. It seems that my queries of embedded tables no longer worked with the new build. Anyone else notice this problem, or is it just me. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Problems with Update Build 2783_3536

I spoke too soon about disregarding the problem. Let me summarize what I am experiencing for your enlightenment, as I'm not sure if a bug exists, or if the problem lies solely on myself and my computers.

Since installing the most recent build, I noticed I was getting erratic behavior on databases I had created. Queries were not working properly in embedded tables and in some cases when entering data, the data in the fields would disappear when saving the record. I assumed that it was a bug, and restored the previous build.

But lo and behold the problems existed with the previous build, which was giving me no problem before. I removed the program completely and reinstalled it with the previous build....same problem. However, when I reinstalled the build from 2 builds ago, everything was fine. I've duplicated this on a 64 bit quad processor, and a 32 bit computer.

Any ideas would be appreciated. BTW, I'm not a programer, just a pedestrian, so go easy on me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tooth Fixer, a real name would be nice.

Could you let us have a look at you app with dummy data to see exactly what you are experiencing. That way we don't have to go down the road of building a test app and not seeing the same as you.

            Hi Greg,

Can you post a sample of what you have experienced in order that we can understand if this a local problem that can be dealt with here, or a major one that needs to be fixed by Alpha.

Re: Problems with Update Build 2783_3536

I submitted a bug to report the other day demonstrating a problem that was introduced in the recent patch involving embedded browses and then doing a query on the records. The record pointer would move to record in question but not filter the browse. My example showed Selwyn the issue which he confirmed...I am sure there will be a fix in the next patch if that is your issue as I have had feedback from Selwyn on this.

In the meantime, Selwyn said a simple:

browsename.fetch_first() would solve the issue if you needed to run the current patch for something else.

I have this design ALL through a major app - so I am just waiting on a new patch and have rolled back.

                Regards,

                Jeff

I am having very similar issues with my database. A lot of problems with query.

When I first updated to version 10 none of my queries worked. So I finally was able to fix that. Then I upgraded to this build and I am having a lot of issues, especially when I run a script on a form, when the script ends it changes the record on the form or removes child records from the parent if it is a set.

Also, if I delete a record from the a table in browse view it deletes not just the selected record but about 200 records. The way around this is before I delete a record from a table i have to pack that table. Seems to do the trick,

Here is a zip file with problems, when you go to payment tab and change the next due date above payment browse, you will see the records will show fields from other records at the bottom, this does not happen on the 3523 build

The patch issued 03/02/2010 seems to have fixed the query issue previously mentioned, but another issue is still present. I notice that when entering a record on a form, the first record entered will save correctly. However, when entering the second record, the data in most of the fields disappears when the record is saved.

My database has sensitive data, so I cannot post it, but I have some lesser databases, in which I want to check this issue before I post. Note that prior to build 2783_3536, the "save record" issue did not occur.

I'm sorry if my descriptions are not clear as I am not a programmer, as my nick implies. In response to a previous post I use a nickname because I am a very private person especially online.
