Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

difference password for each user to open the same form

    Hi all Alpha expert,

I use form and enable the password for any one to use form.
How can I set up the difference password for each user to use the same form. I see only one password I can use for that form.

Log in in difference user and keep it in variable and use it to check if what user and compare with its password for each user to access that form?

    Please advise and commend

    Thanks
    Peter

You can either set up groups, assign users to them, and check access by group or you can set a table of users with fields for the forms and indicate t/f for each form for each user.
    There can be only one.

      Hi Peter,

One way is to set up User Groups.

On the button that is calling the form you can have a dialog box to advise user if they are not in an authorised group. The second instruction would be to open the form if the logged in user was in the authorised group.

To test you will need to use Xbasic something like this
      Code:
      is_one_of("Sales",user_groups())
That is if you had a group called Sales.

Re: difference password for each user to open the same form

        Hi Stan,

        Thank you for your advise.
        If I have 2 forms ; cust_id and expense
and 3 users ; john, sarah, david

and allow them to user form like this

        cust_id expense
        john john
        sarah
        david
I mean cust_id form has 3 user can access and use it while expense form has just only john can access and use it.

what I have to do with cust_id and expense form?

if I crate a table and has field name contant the user name and another field for enable each form for t/f. I don't understand clearly for the other field to enable each form true/fault

table name auth has 4 fields ; user_id,user_name,cust_idform, expenseform

        user_id user_name cust_idform expenseform
        001 john t t
        002 sarah t f
        003 david t f

if I create the above table like that and how can I map this table to authorize user to use each form

        Plase advise

        Thanks

Re: difference password for each user to open the same form

            Peter,

Here is working sample of how I have used the Alpha Security to control what department has logged on.

The password for Adminsitrator is admin. (lower case)

The passwords for the other users is on the Main Menu form.

Examine the form in design mode, see the calculated field. Take note of the conditional object and the expressions which control each layer.

Look at Tools->Security from the main toolbar.

As I said this is how I have done it, others may have another take on it.
