Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Calendar ?

    I almost have....:(

I found an ActiveX that is not quite as "Modern" as CodeJock* and is reasonably priced even when charging for building the interface---but it has some incompatibilities with Alpha. I am still working on resolving these issues but they may end up being insurmountable.

I take it that you are referring to a complete Scheduler and not just a calendar....with drag and drop functionality, recurring events, categories, and other features. It has all this.

If I get it to work, I will announce it here on the messageboard.

    * which will work but is $150 PER use just for the activex

      Hi Steven,

What type of Calendar are you looking for?

There is the Alpha Addin Calendar available in the Alpha shop and there is the Alpha Calendar Pro available here.

I have also been working on a Desktop calendar application.
It uses activex and keeps the data in tables.

        It is not a scheduler

          Oh yeah,
Having the ability to both store and retrieve table data is, of course, a must IMO for any calendar/schedular.

            Re: Calendar ?

It is full calendar / scheduler as Mike said. I have never seen the alpha calendar, does anyone have screen shots? The Alpha Calendar Pro is messy in a desktop environment.

              Re: Calendar ?

              Steven,

The Alpha Calendar is pretty dated at this point as I have not seen anything new on it in years. I have it runing in two apps and the functionality is there....but I think there are better ways now. At least more visually appealing ways.

Attached is a screen shot of FlashCalendarPro integrated into a desktop app. In this case, I am extracting the data and making a "read only" calendar for the users. But, if I wanted to add the ability to add / edit records it would not be too bad at all. Just have to go in and edit the XML file. It takes some effort at first to get your head around the XML structure. Then it is just the Alpha functions to edit a text file. The only down fall with this control is that you would have to refresh the entire calendar if you added or edited. I know FlashCalendarPro has a mode to allow adding items to your calendar as well that might work in a more slick manner for that part of it...I just have not had the need to use it yet.

Also, there is an example and code in Dr. Wayne's book (Xbasic for Everyone) that provides a full working copy of a "coded" calendar.

              Regards,

              Jeff

                Hi Jeff,
Has Flash Calendar Pro have or is possibly going to add drag-drop functionality?? Peter Wayne's (Alpha) cannot currently I know yet...

                  Hey Mike,

They do not have drag and drop that I know of....I thought I saw that in their "roadmap" for future releases on their site awhile back. But, I just looked and didn't see it there.
