Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Stylesheets error

I upgraded my computer and did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. After installing A5 V10, I now get the following error when I try to change a stylesheet.

    Script:UI_DLG_BOX:Stylesheets Line8
    a5_style_bitmap_draw("dynamicstyle",cSelection,
    a5_ss_bmp_get(cSelection)
    Property not found
    tSS.background_bitmap subelement not found.

Any suggestions on the problem? I reinstalled A5 but still have the error.

    Hi Ernie,

Does this happen to every form and does this also happen when you try the same thing in AlphaSports?

yes, i too have this problem for the last few days, this morning i deleted my v10 100% and re install, the result is the same.

the only way to create a new form is to copy and paste... i am unable to create new form is as the result of this stylesheet error.

        Re: Stylesheets error

I too cannot create a new browse. I am experiencing the following error:

        Script:UI_DLG_BOX:Stylesheets Line8
        a5_style_bitmap_draw("dynamicstyle",cSelection,
        a5_ss_bmp_get(cSelection)
        Property not found
        tSS.background_bitmap subelement not found.

I searched the forum for "background_bitmap" and found 3 posts that basically say the same thing. None have resolutions - only requests for help.

Does anyone have an answer for this?

(I recently did a complete reinstall and my Build # is 3591.)

          Hi Frank,
best to delete your alpha 100% and download the latest trial
and re install it accordingly, unless you are using Visual Studio 10
          patch.

This in my case fixed the problem.

additional information quote Selwyns email to me last week as follow:

go to the interactive window and type:

          ?a5_getapplicationdatafilename("A_STYLESHEETS.DBF",.T.)

that will return a name of you stylesheet database.
i suspect that this is either corrupt, or you don't have permission to read it.

          then type

          fn = a5_getapplicationdatafilename("A_STYLESHEETS.DBF",.T.)
          ?file.exists(fn)

does that return .t. or .f.?

if it returns .t. then try to delete it.

          type

          file.remove(fn)

can you create a form now?
alpha five should now be using the a_stylesheets.dbf table that is installed in the program folder.

            Problem resolved - thanks Ken.

This time I did an uninstall before reinstalling Build # 3591. I'm assuming that's what did the trick.

I don't understand. To me an install is an install, It should overwrite everything that is in the directory. Apparently that is not the case.

I can think of a case where this would not be true for many software updates in that if something was taken out in the new install that was in a prior version, then it would remain....unless the developers explicitly deleted the files from within the patch/update....best not to assume something like this even though most of the time there would be no problem.

I got it fixed by completely removing v10 and re-installing. Not a problem anymore.

Forget the I got it fixed. I thought I did but it is still not fixed. I removed Alpha Five using Revo Uninstaller and had it delete all files and folders installed by alpha five. I then went in and manually deleted all folders in the users folders including the ones that are hidden such as apps data. I then re-installed alpha five and it still gives me the same error. To answer a question above by Keith, yes Alpha Five Sports app shows the error if i try to change style sheets in that also. Any application I try to change the style sheet gives me the error including creating a new application and form.

                    Frank,
The suggested method is not only to remove the files and folders, but also all registry entries created by Alpha....Search the registry for Alpha Software and delete all occurrances prior to reinstalling.

                      Re: Stylesheets error

I removed Alpha Five again. I removed all files from the Program Files folder, Program Files (x86), Users Documents files and folders, hidden files and folders in AppData Local and Roaming. I searched the registry and removed all entries of Alpha Software. I then reinstalled Alpha Five. I opened the Alpha Sports app and was able to change the stylesheet. I then opened one of my apps and tried to edit a form and got the same message as above. I closed that app and opened the Alpha Five Sports app and tried to edit a form and then was not able to change the stylesheet.
I have been using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit for several months with no problems. I did a computer upgrade and added a SSD drive. I did a clean install of windows. I changed my users profiles from the C: drive to a second hard drive (SATA). After the Users profiles were on my other drive I then installed all my applications. I then copied all my data from a backup drive to my Documents folders on the second drive. As I said, all my users profiles are not on the same drive as my Windows 7. Documents, pitcures, etc are on the second drive (U:\Users\Ernie). I did not have this problem until I changed my profile to the second drive but I did a clean install on all of my Windows applications.

You mentioned using the Revo Uninstaller before re-installing Alpha Five. Try using the Windows Control Panel Uninstaller located in Contol Panel: Programs and Features. I'm thinking there may be one or two routines that Windows performs onto itself that 3rd party packages are not aware of - it's worth a try.

This kind of goes without saying, but are you installing the latest build from the Alpha Website, or are you reinstalling a version downloaded a long time ago? Obviously, I would persue installing the most recent version available.
                        Good luck!

                          Re: Stylesheets error

Revo Uninstaller uses the default windows uninstaller for the first step to remove an application. After the application is removed by the windows uninstaller Revo goes to the next step.

The next step Revo does a scan of the registry for entries left behind associated with Alpha Five (just to let you know if finds 2625 registry entries left behind). After the registry scan it gives you the option to remove all entris or remove only the ones you want removed. I select to remove all entries.

The thrid step Revo scans all hard drives for files and folders created by an application during the install or associated with the application. I then gives you the option to remove or keep those files and/or folders. I remove all files and folders.

After this is done I open the windows registry editor and do a search for Alpha Software but only find one entry. I remove that.

I close all applications and reboot the computer. I have downloaded the most recent Alpha Five application and install. After the install I open one of the Alpha Five applications and try to change the stylesheet. I still have the original error.

                            Re: Stylesheets error

The fact the Revo missed one entry in the windows registry is kind of my point!

The complete uninstall fixed my error, which is very similiar to yours. Sorry I can't help you. I have another stupid A5 error I'm dealing with. I just did a complete re-install and it's still there.

This is my 9th reinstall. It's very frustrating and I am beginning to lose faith in the product. Alpha 4 was not as robust, but it never had anywhere near the multitude of problems that Alpha 5 has presented.

Presently - I open the database - right click on a table to "edit the field rules". They get clobbered upon exiting. Any subsequent retries end up with an error of:

Error The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
"MyTableNameAndPath DD" occurred while trying to start application.

I'm going to post this in the forum for help.
