Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can't get alpha E-mail to work

I set up the E-mail account identically to what I have in
outlook. Outlook works perfectly. ie test
Alpha keeps telling me it cant connect
    what gives?
sometimes I get an incorrect authorization error.
The authorization is identical to what I have always used to access the account both in outlook and on squirrel mail by the provider.
or I will get just can not connect.
What more do you have to do?
the only difference I see is that alpha doesnt say
    POP3 it just says POP.
I called the provider and they told me what I had already done in outlook and Alpha. Is there a fix for this?

on my form I use a button to send the email field to alpha and this works. the Email jumps up with the e-mail address in ready to send.
I have tried this on two computers.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Check you are not be being blocked by AV. I know that MacAfee will identify Alpha as potential mass mail worm unless you list it in its exceptions.

      Mark thanks for your response
I tried turning off my AV trend Micro but I still get the
no connect authorization error. I keep inputting the same info
I have in the settings for Outlook they must be doing something that Alpha cant do as far as being allowed to connect.hmmm.
      Thanks anyway.

        Can you:

        1. Print screen and attach the error
        2. Bring up your email setting and print screen this as well. the password will be *** so there should be no compromise.
        3. Do the same with your outlook settings

Re: Can't get alpha E-mail to work

          Mark
Thanks I finally got it to work BINGO!
In outlook I used what was on the first settings screen
which was pop. and smpt. and Logon information is the
normal login user that I will write each time I want
to access the e-mail account and the password. this is what I put into the settings in Alpha.
However at the bottom of this dialog in outlook there is a button for "more settings"
and there I found under "outgoing server" the login was my email address and then my password.
thus in the settings in alpha under sending I needed to put my
e-mail address for user instead of just my logon name and then the password. This is what made the difference.
          anyway it works perfectly now.
I was confused to put under user the name I normally use to access the e-mail vs the email account for user when I send the e-mail.
Your response helped me focus thank a lot.
