Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

but its still exits without canceling. I tried this on other forms as well.
could anyone shed some light on this part?? can't get the cancel to work when trying to exit the form, action is set to always cancel (for now at least)

I'm not that familiar with conditional action scripts, converted the exit button to code.

Should have said added canexit code. Didn't find any canexit actions in your sample. I can't say there is a bug if I don't know what you tried.

I added the same code from the example to the actual form I'm working on and I still can't get it to cancel.

What I tried before copying your code:
right click on form-> CanExit->"create using action scripting"-> chose new action, "cancel event" via action genie. Try it on my example from before.

this is so strange, I'll play with this some more tomorrow. I've been playing with it all day and wasn't able to produce the cancel event. Thanks for checking this out stan.

Re: bug? : variable not registering

there is definitely a bug when you leave the condition blank. It clearly states that if you leave the condition blank, it's supposed to ALWAYS cancel the event. It doesn't.

In your example you filled the condition: Var->shipped = "Open" and it works fine, that's good, but its supposed to also cancel when blank.

sorry to be such a pain, would you be so kind as to try my example.

I attached the actual DB I'm working on. The form is called "shipping control" I can't get it to cancel then OnExit, the way we discussed when var->shipped= "open"

Re: bug? : variable not registering

Seems to work for me. If I try to close the shipping control form (with variable set to open) with the corner x I get the Must close message and the form doesn't close. If I change the variable to closed (and tab out of the variable object), the form closes ok.

I am using V8 so it may be an issue in v10.

hmmm, it works fine in V7 but looks like I'm having the problem in V10... so maybe this IS a bug.

But here's the funny thing, it works fine in the example you sent me, if I fill the condition in. But when I copy that to my database (which I just uploaded) I can't get it to work!

I'm having a similar problem with using a variable to select the starting position for printing labels (a method Stan Mathews described in another thread). Using his suggestion, I was able to get it to work with Version 5, but am unable to get it to work now with Version 10.5. The variable label_start_pos is always treated as equal to 1 by the print function, even though I have typed in other values for it on the form where it appears.
