Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Change Tab wording but not enable Captions

Is there a way to change the tab wording without enabling window captions?

I have a borderless form and would like to keep it that way although I want change the tab wording.

    i.e
    Current Tab wording -> Main_Menu
Preferred tab wording -> Main Menu

What are you referring to as a "tab"? A tabbed object?
    There can be only one.

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. The "tab" that Alpha creates at the bottom of the App when you open a form.

Looks like Alpha is using the normalized version of the form name. Can you live with renaming the form to MainMenu and seeing that?

Unfortunatley that was one simple example, I have other form names that need to be "modified" although use a more cryptic name for the actual form.

          Examples...
          Emp_Menu
          Emp_Time_Off
          Emp_Security

But would prefer the tab read
          Employee Menus
          Employee Time Off
          Employee Security

again, just examples but you can see where I am going.

Instead of trying to fight what Alpha doesn't allow us to change (don't believe they can be), why not eliminate them (can with a setting change) and substitute your own field at the bottom of the form or possibly even use the status bar and have the open form names there? Not quite the same I guess....another possible is to have either a form or toolbar "docked" at the bottom that will show all the forms that are open. I have not done this but seems doable.

in one of the documentations for updates, I recall there now being a setting for letting you use other than the actual form name for the window bar

Mike, what is the setting to eliminate the tabs? I do not want them anyway, removing them is better solution for me.

                    Mike, Thanks for the tip.

The attachment shows the setting location.

To open Settings, go to the menu items View - Settings

Note: Once you make the setting change, close and reopen Alpha.

To elimate the tabs, from the control panel, click on File/Database Properties and at the bottom of the form select Hide Window Toolbar. You will need to restart A5 to make it go into effect.

If you have Runtime clients using your app and do not wish to make the change manually on each workstation you can add this to your Autoexec.

                          Code:
                          if registry.sys_get("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 10.0\preferences\window_bar\display") <> "No"
                               registry.sys_create("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 10.0\preferences\window_bar\display","No")
                          end if
The runtime will still need to close and reopen to make the changes effectifve.
