Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    table.create_clone() doesn't appear to work !!

    Using the function .create_clone() DIRECTLY from the example in the Wiki, or in the simplest interactive form below

    Code:
    dim t_old as P
    dim t_new as P
    t_old = table.open("g:\ac\dps\stwkt.dbf")
    t_new = t_old.create_clone("g:\ac\dps\stloc.dbf")
    returns an error
    Code:
    ERROR: Create underway, use DB_CREATE_END
    Since the example expects the target table to exist, its use would be limited to existing tables.
    It doesn't work either with new or existing.
    This one is not a biggie to work around, I can use other functions to create the table, populate it and on subsequent uses open and zap it.

    I found http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...t=create_clone
    If there are are mal-functions reported that don't work, removing or fixing them could save us hours.
    Would this appear to be a bug? as well as BROWSE.DIALOG() and should I report these?

    Sadly, the same thing with BROWSE.DIALOG()
    (See http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...loses-and-exit) since I had no replies that is probably another of the same case.

    Any opinions welcome
    Ray

    worked for me with

    Code:
    dim t_old as P
    dim t_new as P
    t_old = table.open(a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)+"testtable.dbf")
    t_new = t_old.create_clone(a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)+"testtable2.dbf")

    t_old.close()
    I did need to add to the database, but I expected that.

      Your example works for me in V5 and V8.

      Since the example expects the target table to exist,
      don't understand that comment. the example uses the must not exist flag.

      filename = ui_get_file("Copy To:", "Tables (*.DBF)", "", "N")
      In your first link there is no indication that the problem was ever reported, saving hours of frustration.

      There can be only one.

        Correct Stan, I missed the "N" flaggie thing, but I tried both new and existing.
        I get your defense of Alpha. If you need help with that I'm there. I love Alpha and it's all (including you).
        I know there was no report, thats why I ask if I should report it. I don't report faults because I expect the error is me, so I need confirmation first.
        Problem may be my version because if I put
        Code:
        dim dummyP as P
        dummyP = table.open("g:\ac\dps\stwkt.dbf")
        in front of the example, and
        Code:
        dummyP.close()
        at the end - it doesn't complete. I get dialog
        Script:testcreate_clone line:17
        tbl_target = tbl_source.create_clone(filename)
        Create underway, use DB_CREATE_END
        Al, if I use your code interactive (first created "test.dbf" and no other) and gets to
        Code:
        dim t_old as P
        dim t_new as P
        t_old = table.open(a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)+"test.dbf")
        t_new = t_old.create_clone(a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)+"testtable2.dbf")
        ERROR: Create underway, use DB_CREATE_END
        I'm using v10 build 3739_3629

              Still flashes, then closes. You can report the bug, but use another method in the meantime. Action scripting will give you a place to start from.
