To boot, if you run the code in post #6 in v8, you get an error, because the return isn't quite character type and the function ctod() doesn't like whatever type it is. You can use word() and it will display in a msgbox() but ctod() does not like it. Same for v9. It works without error in v10.

No problem. Got it.
The reason for the error is that all your returns are not characters, they are blobs (not sure why though, but they are. I think is because when downloading from a web page, the variables are allowed their max turning characters into blobs).
So to fix your script and get it to work in v8, here is what I did:

dim vsymbol as C="BP"
dim result as p
dim p as p

dim vsite as C="http://www.google.com/finance/historical?q=NYSE:"+vsymbol+"&output=csv"
link = vsite
result = http_get(link)

p.Date =word(word(result.body,2,chr(10)),1)
p.Open = word(result.body,7,",")
p.High = word(result.body,8,",")
p.Low = word(result.body,9,",")
p.Volume = word(result.body,11,",")
p.price=word(result.body,10,",")
stock_data = p
x=(p.date)
x1=x.peekc(1,9)
v_date=ctod(x1)

And it works, no errors.
