Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    browse row highlighling problem

    I have searched the message board for this and came up with nothing.

    In the attached example, a single table with embedded browse has browse property for selected row set to light orange. The form with the browse has an array of buttons for each record which changes focus to the record when pushed. If you press the button without having selected a row in the browse by the row selector, the record corresponding to the button pushed will be in focus and the browse shows as expected. If, however, you select a row in the browse using the row selector, and then press one of the buttons to move to a different record, all the records between where you were and the new records are grayed out. Has anyone seen this? come up with a solution? Believe it is a bug (still problematic browse)?

    Thanks

    Not happening here (v8). What happens, whenever you select a record, that record gets to the top of the pile, so I am not sure how are you seeing the records between where you where and the new location, they are all out os sight way up in the attic. Isn't that what's happening in your version?

      I see what you see Martin in V10.5. I don't get a greyed out list, I get blanks between the last number selected in the Browse and the Button pushed.
      It doesn't happen in V9 though.
      Edited the Form in V9 and saved it. It now seems to work in V10.5.
      Have attached it so you can try it.

        I see what you mean. In my opinion, it's a bug.

        Here's my work around. I added code to the buttons; 1,11,21,31,41 and 50.

        Form Variable:
        Session rec4 numeric

        Form Event: - OnActivate

        var->rec4=table.current(1).recno()
        browse1.refresh()

        Browse# Event - OnArrive and OnRowChange

        var->rec4=table.current(1).recno()
        browse1.refresh()

        Browse Column Properties  Other

        Color Equation - checked
        If(recno()=var->rec4,"black on pale yellow","black on white")

          Ted, Ron thanks for looking. I downloaded the samples both you gave and neither word for me. I still see the same thing. I did get it to clear the problem by putting - topparent:Browse1.fetch_first() before the topparent:rcno_goto(). This works but if there a large number of records in the table under browse, this will be very cumbersome. I think it's a bug. Will report as such.

            Mike,

            I had some difficulties with browses in V10.5. Those ran perfectly under V9.
            I wonder whether the new browse methods would be of any help to you.

              Jo,
              Thanks, that's good to know. But it doesn't relieve the problem when moving backward (from bottom to top) through the records.

                Hi Mike,

                In my testing, the problem only occurs when the row selector has focus.

                I've reattached my test zip. I made a function and put that function in the OnPush event for each button.
                It works perfectly for me until I mouse click on the row selector. Then it fails.

                  Re: browse row highlighling problem

                  I've discovered you don't need to topparent:browse1.fetch_first(). You can use topparent:Browse1.fetch_next(), and the focus moving just one record before moving the the goto record relieve the problem. BUT, you have to test for it being the last record in the browse, because if your there and it tries to move forward, you get a new record or an error. Good enough for me,though.

                    Mike,
                    Nice to have a work-around for this issue.

                    Did you report it to Alpha? Any results if so?
