Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tablesum Calculation

    This isn't a valid tablesum expression.

    tablesum("t_dailytime","T_Week->Week = '1' " .AND. "T_Dailytime->Day ='Monday' ","T_Dailytime->Workhrs+T_Dailytime->Extrahours+T_Dailytime->Vachours+T_Dailytime->Sickhours")

    Removing the " before and after .AND. also doesn't work.

    tablesum("t_dailytime","T_Week->Week = '1' .AND. T_Dailytime->Day ='Monday' ","T_Dailytime->Workhrs+T_Dailytime->Extrahours+T_Dailytime->Vachours+T_Dailytime->Sickhours")

    What is missing to make it a valid expression?

    This expression works but only if the record has focus:

    iif(T_Dailytime->Day="Monday".AND.T_Dailytime->Week="1",T_Dailytime->Workhrs+T_Dailytime->Extrahours+T_Dailytime->Vachours+T_Dailytime->Sickhours,0)

    There are a total of 5 expressions (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri) for a total of 5 records. The only time the expression works is when the record has focus. Example, click on the Monday record and it shows the value but the others do not. Click on the Tuesday record and it shows the value and the others do not.

    Re: Tablesum Calculation

    Tablesum() "reaches" into a table and extracts data based on a filter.

    Code:
    tablesum("[COLOR="#FF0000"]t_dailytime[/COLOR]","[COLOR="#0000CD"]T_Week->Week = '1' " .AND. "T_Dailytime->Day ='Monday' [/COLOR]","[COLOR="#006400"]T_Dailytime->Workhrs+T_Dailytime->Extrahours+T_Dailytime->Vachours+T_Dailytime->Sickhours[/COLOR]")
    Since you are extracting data from the t_dailytime table as named in the function you don't need the T_Dailytime-> reference.

    Code:
    tablesum("t_dailytime","T_Week->Week = '1' " .AND. "Day ='Monday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")
    Now we can see the problem is the T_Week->Week = '1'. You are attempting to filter the t_dailytime table on a field in another table (T_Week). No can do.
    If there is a week field in t_dailytime, you can filter on that.

    Since you say the iif() expression works and it refers to t_dailytime->week it would seem you want
    Code:
    tablesum("t_dailytime","Week = '1' " .AND. "Day ='Monday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")

      True, but it should work just the same. I forgot to mention the form is based on a set so that's what Alpha put in when the field was selected.

      I tried that but no go. Nothing changed.

        Re: Tablesum Calculation

        Much easier to diagnose on a sample of the database or at least the t_dailytime table. But you know that.

        Got lost with all those table references and didn't notice all your quotes in the filter.

        You need.

        Code:
        tablesum("t_dailytime","Week = '1' .AND. Day ='Monday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")
        or you could use one more quote and a +.

        Code:
        tablesum("t_dailytime","Week = '1' "+" .AND. Day ='Monday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")
        There can be only one.

          That's what Alpha put in when you selected the week field with the T_week table selected. I'll bet you can select fields from other tables by selecting the proper table name, then the field name.

            Surely, it will. I will attach a zipped file later this evening.

                  Works here for a dummy table (attached).

                  Code:
                  ? tablesum("t_dailytime","Week = '1' .AND. Day ='Monday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")
                  = 14.000000
                  ? tablesum("t_dailytime","Week = '2' .AND. Day ='Wednesday' ","Workhrs+Extrahours+Vachours+Sickhours")
                  = 8.000000
                  t_dailytime.zip

                    Hi Stan,

                    The expression is the same as mine except you removed the table names. Thank you for your time and efforts. If it helped 1 person, it helped a hundred or more. As the Brits would say as they lifted a toast (if I remember the TV movies correctly), "Here, Here!" "Cheers!!"
