I believe I asked a wrong question. What I want is to embed the windows file structure into an Alpha form so that I can browse the local PC files from Alpha forms without switching back to windows explorer. So is there a way to achieve this?

Yes.. depends on what flavor you want:
1-xdlg: use Folder Select Style
2-In a form: Use Smart Field "File Select"
3-In an xdlg or a form build a tree showing the directory. The tree could popup or be permanently displayed on the form. To pursue this look into:
UI_BROWSE_FOR_FOLDER()

Number 3 is what I need. How to make the tree permanently displayed on the form? Is there a built-in function to call or need to write some code?

I don't know if you could do that in v10 without writing a code, i.e. a smart field dynamically populated with the folders' names.
In v8 where I am, you have to write a code to enumerate all folders then create a tree which would be displayed in the form in a variable.
See if it is doable in v10 without a code, if not, I will post one.

I searched everywhere for a built-in function to make the tree show permanent on a form but no luck . It would need custom code for doing the job.

Hi Phil,

Create the tree dialog that you want, convert it to xbasic and then use that code in the Super Controls-> Embedded XDialog.

There are many new features that were added to Alpha after V8.
