Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Rich Text Field quit working.

In my invoice report I have a rich text field that will print the text "Transfered" if that order was transferred to another company out of town.

It worked fine for a number of years but suddenly quit working and printed the above in all cases.

The RTF would look at another field (Region) to determine if it was true.

In order to see if the Region field was populated correctly I inserted the field into the report.

Once I did this the report went back to working correctly. So now I just hid the field in the report and Bill is happy again.

Any thoughts on why the strange behavior??

    Bill

I'd have put the Field in and hidden it in any event, but I can't see anything wrong.
As it's worked for a number of years, I presume that you haven't changed the Alpha version or gone to Win7?
Have you applied all of the patches equally?

Forgot to mention this report is in QReportBuilder. Don't remember any upgrades but may have had one. It was originally created in A5V9. I'll have to see if it works still in Alpha.

Whether it's in QRB or not shouldn't matter.
Export the report and data from QRB and email it to me.

              How do you do that?
              By expression?
              A script?
              A variable?

Interesting... Bill sent me an example and the if statement in the RTF field doesn't retain the tablename->fieldname only the fieldname. So since the field the conditional is based on is in a child table, if the field is not on the report(hidden or not), confusion abounds.

I'd suggest using a conditional object to show/noshow an entire object or leave the hidden field on the report.

Al, I tried this with data from three levels deep in a Set and it worked OK.
The Field in the [IF] statement was not present on the form.

So you believe this to be associated with my database and report - or - to do with something new in A5 and or Qreportbuilder.

I dropped the one to many table - InvoiceLineCopy and then the object worked as planned.

I then looked at a browse of the original data set and didn't see anything that struck me as odd.

So it is something that is relative to your set, but not obvious to me.

You should investigate more prior to putting in a bug report.
