Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

When I try to run it as a code it tells me. Error line 27 expected value. The operation has its own code that the program put there and when I try to put this code there it doesn't save it. So I made it a code and it just gives me the error. When I created the operation it took me thru the steps asking different things it wanted filled in. I know I am doing something wrong I just don't know what.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

I am past all the other things I just wrote to you. I have it in the text file and when I run the operation I get "Record failed to import at line:7 Firel: Date You may have to adjust this field type, width or number of decimal places to have the file import correctly." I checked both the Number of days table and the pmt sum table the fields are exactly alike and I checked the invoice table where all the info comes from and the field properties are the same. In the import the field properties are the same. So I am just confused where the problem lies. And my pmt_sum table is still empty.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

When you design your import operation, you might have to adjust the field types & lengths. It seems that you are getting very close.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

Okay Let me ask you what is going to sound like a stupid question. Where do I put the code in that you gave me? Is it suppose to be part of the import action or am I suppose to save it as a code or in the txt file?

I got past the field size thing now it is telling me: "Import line :31 save_to_file(new file,"C:\Users\Public\Documents\Lone Star Files\Lone Star A5\pmt_sum.txt",.f.) Not a valid entry handle" I have no clue what that means.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

Save_to_file() expects a variable name and a file name to which to save the contents of the variable.

                    new file
is not a valid variable name. Perhaps you wanted
                    new_file

                    ?
                    There can be only one.

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

Thank you Stan that was the problem but now it is coming back with this problem again "Record failed to import at line:1 Field: Date You may have to adjust this field type, width or number of decimal places to have the file import correctly" All the field sizes are the same because when you choose date as the field type Alpha makes it 8. But I checked the text file and it has 5 records there but the dates all have the / in between the numbers can it be that when it is trying to import the info back that the / are being counted and now the date is no longer 8?

Re: Limit # of records in a subreport

I tried my theory and it work some what. I changed the date field to numberic and now it fills the table but it just gives me the month number in the date column. So how do I get it to not see the / between the date when it imports so that the field can see the info as a date?

What do the "dates" look like in the text file to be imported?

They are "03/22/2011" and that is what now shows up in the new table. I did not change the field in the original table that it pulls the info from and it is all working and I am SO happy. If you'd like I can zip and send so you can see.
