Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Exit or Escaping an Embeded Browse ...

    I used a4v2 to v8 quite a lot but I am new to a5 ... just purch 10.5

I have a parent form ... called Invoice ... and a embeded browse called inv_items.
Is there a way to escape the browse to get the the next field on the parent form.
My layout is much like alpha sports as far as how it looks.
Tried an xbasic script triggered on row change but so far not working.

my inv_items fields look like this ITEM QTY DESC PRICE ...
I have a script written to detect ITEM being blank and then I want to save COMMIT the changes and goto the PARENT field SHIP_FLAG

I can get out my grabbing my mouse and clicking into the next Parent field but when you are filling a lot of forms this is rather a mess to me.

    Thanks!!

Control-Tab should get you out of the browse to the next object in the form's tab order.
    There can be only one.

      Thanks!

But can I echo a Control-Tab from my xbasic upon a certain condition?

Should be able to using play keystrokes if you can trap the condition effectively and are sure that it is thoroughly tested for errors.

Stan, thanks ... but CONTROL-TAB does not escape the browse, nor does SHIFT-TAB, or ESCAPE.

Ctrl+Tab works for me. Sorry to be pedantic and no insult intended, but I presume you are holding the Ctrl key down while also pressing the Tab key?
Have you organised the sequence of Fields using "Arrange"? Should take you to next Filed in the list.

Ted, No insult taken, I have made many mistakes in my life! But yes I was holding down CONTROL key while I struck the TAB key it moved the cursor over to the next entry field and then I did it again and it activated the skips I have in the field rules to the end of the record and then it came back to the 1st field in the record (but did not save a blank record). So it just keep repeating the same record over and over.

Try Control-Tab in AlphaSports, the Invoice form. If your form doesn't behave the same, find what you have done differently.

thanks Stan, I have Alpha Sports loaded and when I hold Control and hit TAB it backs me up toward the TOP of the Form .. is that not what it does on yours? I want to go to a field that is BELOW the browse and comes after the Browse in TAB ORDER.

I am in Alpha Sports Entering a New Invoice and I am entering new items and then I want to get out .. then I hit Control Tab and it moves me toward the 1st item in the browse and then to the Name Address Area of the Invoice.

I need to go below the Browse to the next field in SET TAB ORDER that is on the PARENT form.

Use the F6 function key. As far as triggering this from the code you have, instead of trying to emulate the key stroke to do the action, do the action itself.

                              Use:
                              topparent.your_control_name.activate()
                              Tim Kiebert
                              Eagle Creek Citrus
A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.
