Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Re: Refresh a tabbed control

      Sorry I was off of this project for a while and I appreciate the comments.

      I can't post my ComputeEngine() function, but it adds a new child record each time it's called. When I roll out the version with support for many child records, I'll just eliminate the step where I delete all the current child records. Until that time, my plan was to do the delete of any/all existing child records (should be only one for now) and the function would create a new child record. The other difference will be on the tabbed control on the form. The version that's showing only one child record won't use a browse control, and the version that supports many child records will use the browse control.

      At the moment, for testing, I have both. One tab has a browse control and another tab just has fields from the child table. Frankly, the browse control makes the code much easier and it's working. The downside of the browse control is LOTS of scrolling left and right to show all of the fields whereas on the tab with fields only I'm able to easily include all of the fields without any scrolling.

      At this point, since I'm lacking a clear understanding of how to address the non-browse-control child record, I'll probably just go with the browse control version and tell the customer to live with scrolling issue.

      MoGrace: what would you like to see a screenshot of?

        Re: Refresh a tabbed control

        Well, now, even with the browse control I'm having issues. Here's a bit of code:

        NutrientBrowse.Commit()
        ComputeEngine(TopParent:Formula_number.value)
        NutrientBrowse.Refresh_Layout()
        NutrientBrowse.Refresh()

        I commit the browse just in case they were editing it (which they shouldn't)
        The ComputeEngine function adds a new child record.
        I'm trying BOTH Refresh and RefreshLayout to try to make the new record appear in the browse control.

        Sometimes the new record appears automatically like I want it to, and sometimes it does not appear until I click in the browse control and hit the down-arrow key and then 'poof' it shows up! So, the new record is getting inserted, but the refresh isn't showing it sometimes. I've tried to come up with a pattern of when it appears and when it doesn't but so far it seems random.

          Thats one line of actual code and all it does is call ComputeEngine(
          I can't post my ComputeEngine()
          function and that's what we need, to help you. Well we tried.

            Is there any way to change tree branch icon, instead of using default "folder" icon? Thanks!
