Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Doing updates to an app

Looked at all the Alpha 5 file types but still cannot figure out just which files I need to include when doing an app update.

No table structure changes, just adding some fields to a form, fixing an objects "onpush" and correcting some spelling errors.

I tried just replacing the .adb , .alb and .alm files but it did not work.

Do I need to include the .DDM and .DDD files for each table that is in the set the form is built on?

The .adb , .alb and .alm files are the database support files. You need the table specific support files.

    .ddx, .ddm, .ddd

for each table whose layouts you changed.
    There can be only one.

For a set based object include the .SET, .SEM, .SEX

And for your own sanity name each table/set uniquely

Ok, just tried updating the .ddx .ddm & .ddd files for a table a form is created on. Just correcting spelling errors on the form and updating theses files did not update and correct the spelling errors. This particular form only uses one table so I figured it would be an easy one to try this out on, but no go. I guess I could just replace every file in the app except the .dbf files then maybe I would be sure to get the right ones included.

If you have the right files in the right place, then refresh the database (little arrows in a circular image on the control panel) or close and re-open Alpha.

Look at the datetimestamp from windows also to make sure you have the right files.

Here is what I was doing. I would make the corrections in the developer and then save and close the database app. Then I would have Astrum build an update exe. Next on the test machine I would close the app, run the update and then restart the app. Just updating the .ddx, .ddm & .ddd files for the table that the form was created on did not update and correct the spelling and stuff on the form.

So I created another update exe. This time including every file in the app folder except the .DBF files. I ran that update install on the test machine and this time it took. I know I do not want to include every file except the .DBF files anytime I need to do an update but so far that is the only thing I have found that works and assures me the correct files get updated.

This time including every file in the app folder except the .DBF files.
Which means you overwrote their .cdx (index) files and their .fpt (memo) files.
