Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Given the lack of punctuation I'm going to hazard a guess that a form based on a set will suffice. Your set should be constructed with the parent table (event) and the child table (pictures) linked one to many on crn.

If you view the default form for this set you should see the parent table fields on the form and a browse of the child table. You should be able to view the pictures linked to the current parent record in the browse rows.
    There can be only one.

Re: How to make my picuturs appear when I need them

A form is a means of viewing the records in a table or set. While it is convenient to think of a set "record" as one parent and all the linked child records, Alpha actually constructs a set "composite" record for each parent child match.

What this means is that you can place a browse on a form based on a set and see all linked child records. If you move the child table fields to the form itself you can only view the child fields for the current composite record. Take a look at the default browse for your set. Notice that you will see the same parent fields shown for each linked child. If the first parent has three linked children you will see the parent record values three times.

Not sure what you mean by "I can load the picture myself manually". If you place a browse on the form and only include the picture field from the child table and size the rows tall enough, you should be able to see the pictures.

Again thanks Stan, I now made a report with these pictures in order for me to view these pictures so only the pictures with the same CRN I had to do a sub-report, I get only the pictures that belong to one CRN number but it is showing the pictures verticaly, I need them to print horz. side by side can you tell me how to do this thanks

Nope, that the way a parent-child relationship works in Alpha.

Is there another way of doing this without the parent-child relationship or anyway you think I should do it, Stan you sound like your mad with me is there something I did or said wrong?

I just don't waste a lot of words.

If you must have your pictures shown horizontally then you must have multiple pictures in the same record. You could create a table solely for the purpose of the report. Pre-processing for the report would create a record for each parent and then copy the pictures from the child table to the related parent record. You would need as many picture fields in the report table as there will be child records to copy from. After the report is printed the report table would be emptied for the next use.

Someone messaged me with a suggestion that columns in the detail section might allow you to display some pictures horizontally.

Group break on parent record identifier, only parent fields in the group header, child records in the detail section, report columns set for the detail section ......

Should work but might be awkward if the picture sizes are not consistent.
