Nothing to Copy from clipboard Error Handling

Hi Guys,

I am working on a project where data gets copied then pasted into database field.

Sometimes there is no data that can get copied hence I get the error below:

Script:OnActivate line:46
if parentform:Field1.text = :CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA() = "" then
Object method error. A parameter may be incorrect or misspelled

Is there a way to add an error handler for the above so when that error appears it performs some xbasic coding I wish to implement?

Use eval_valid() to test if :CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA() will return a value.

Thanks for the reply.

I put in an error handler. Its a tad messy but works and I am happy with it.

How would you use the code you posted in a form?

Its so happened that there is such a function:
CLIPBOARD.HAS_DATA()

You could do this:

if CLIPBOARD.HAS_DATA()
..run your code..
end if

I tried it both ways, full and empty. Works as advertised.

OK Unless I am doing something wrong I have pasted the sample below.

if eval_valid(:CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA() )

'if false do this

parentform:Field1.text = "NOTHING TO COPY"

end if

'if not false do this

parentform:Field1.text = :CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA()

:CLIPBOARD.Clear_Data()

Add this in form activate and add a text field. Run it a couple of times and see what happens.

It still does not work.

Run it a few times and you will see an error appear.

I didn't get an error but the concept was wrong.

Delete v
on error goto nothing_on_clipboard 'suppress the error if nothing on clipboard
v = :CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA()
nothing_on_clipboard: 'now test if the variable was created
if variable_exists("V")
'if true do this
parentform:Field1.text = :CLIPBOARD.GET_DATA()
:CLIPBOARD.Clear_Data()
else
'if false do this
parentform:Field1.text = "NOTHING TO COPY"
end if
