Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Record count on field in group

Table name is case, field name "status" and field name "det", i am trying to do a report that gives me the total record count for a period of time, grouped by "det" i can get the total records for status for the date range grouped by det, but when i try to break it down even further by status (open, arrested, unsolved) i keep getting the same total for the whole report for status (example total status would be 20 i want to break it down to open=5, arrested=10,unsolved=5 but i get 20) any help i know i have done this before but for the life of me i can't remember thank you for any help

Rather hard to read and understand your post with as little punctuation and capitalization as you used.

when i try to break it down
What does that mean? Did you create a group on status within the det grouping and add a count on the new group? Did you attempt to create calculated fields using tablecount() and place them in the det group footer?
    There can be only one.

Re: Record count on field in group

Sorry Stan u r the Man allways picking on me because of my punctuation, but thanks for answering I do not mind, OK in the status field there are three names (open, arrested, or unsolved), in my report I need a total count of records for field status for a given time period, grouped by det. When I run the report I get the total record cound for each det just like I want it this total is in the group footer, now within the status field are the three different names, (open or arrested or unsolved), I have the totals for each det now I need the total for each name in the status field grouped by det ie; total for open, total for arrested, and total for unsolved, grouped by det within the same time period, the report would show (TOTAL COUNT FOR DATES IS (20) TOTAL OPEN FOR DATES IS (5) TOTAL ARRESTED FOR DATES IS (10) TOTAL UNSOLVED (5)) the three totals = the totle count thank again Stan

Stan I tried the record count here is what it looks like, tablecount("case","status = 'open'"), I have put this calc in the footer also and it gives me the total for all records instead of all record grouped by det

Re: Record count on field in group

Do you have the primary sort by det + status?
Do you have a subgroup with subtotal for status?
If yes then send example, if no then do that.

Would like to help but am having much difficulty understanding you. Please show us what you want the report to look like. Create it by hand with pencil and paper, or type it on a blank sheet. Thanks.

Thanks Stan, as u saw their will be 5 different entrys in the status field, they are x-cleared, arrested, no crime, open, and unsolved, I would like to be able to add the total of just[ x-cleared, arrested and no crime] only and subtract that total from the calc bb total, would you be so kind and do that for me?
