Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Open form with selected Tab having focus.

    Hi Guys,

    I have a form with a Browse. On each row there is a button to open another form at the required record. (Filtered from the browse)

    On this form there is a Tabbed object with 10 tabs. I would like to open the form with Tab #5 having focus.

    This would be instead of the normal view of the fist tab being displayed. I don't want to have to build another form just to change the order of the tabs as this would be very confusing for the users.

    Is there some code to make this happen? Like Form_Name:Tabbed1:Tab#5.

    TIA

    Don't know about the newer versions of alpha, there might be a method to do so.
    Barring that, here is a little trick:
    Put a hidden object on the desired tab and when you open the form, activate that object. It will, by default, open that tab.
    For instance, you could put a button, let's called it button_10, hide it and make it as small as you can, then in your script that opens the form, you add a line:
    button_10.activate()

      Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

      Hi Keith,

      tabobjectptr.Tab_Set(tabnumber) ' sets tabbed object to tabnumber

      tabobjectptr.tabs.sheet.size() ' returns # of tabs in object

          Thanks Guys for your replies.

          As I want to use the same form, but opening from different places, how would I use the Set_Tab # before the form is opened?

            Keith, the method is part of the form object. It's not available to you until the form is open or loaded. Suggest the following sequence:

            a) load the form, but keep it hidden
            b) get a pointer to the loaded form
            c) use the pointer to set the desired tab page
            d) show the form
            e) activate the form

              Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

              Many thanks for all your help.

              To my surprise and amazement, not only did the code work, but I managed to insert it into what looks like the right place.

              The code was just as Tom had pointed out.

              dim ptr as P
              dim fld as P
              ptr = form.load("Production_control_Sheet")
              'ptr.show()
              fld = ptr.child("TABBED1")
              fld.Tab_set(3)

              I didn't need the show() at this point as the form had to be filtered.

              Thanks again.

                Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

                You want to open that tab for a reason, right?
                And that reason is most likely either you want to view it, edit it or add a new record. Not most likely, these are the only reasons unless you doing it for sports.
                If you activate any object, forget what I said earlier about placing a hidden object, if you activate any object in that tab, it will open that tab. No need for further coding.

                  Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

                  Keith,
                  I use the tab_set() in one of my applications based on whether one of the child tables has any data in it or not. I have this code in the form's on_fetch event:

                  Code:
                  if scanning("cb_redet")
                  	tabobj.tab_set(2)
                    else
                  	tabobj.tab_set(1)
                  end if
                  parentform.refresh_fields()
                  parentform.Resynch()
                  works like a charm.

                  Tom

                    Thanks Tom,

                    That is a very neat little trick. Thanks for sharing.

                      Tom H.

                      Just to let you know, I re did my code in the same fashion as yours because the customer cam back to me and said what if the user wanted to open the form at another tab. That was then followed by a further request to open the same form at a completely different tab.

                      The best thing now is that different users are opening a browse, selecting a record and opening the form at the correct record with right Tab having focus.

                      Thanks again for your input.

                        Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

                        The only noticeable problem with tab_set() used for switching is that while the correct tab page displays, the tab portion itself is not brought to front.

                        Looks a little odd that the initial previous tab is still in front. Anyone else noticing that behavior?
                        I use distinct colour shades for each tab, matching selected tab to it's tab page - maybe that's why it is noticeable to me?

                          Re: Open form with selected Tab having focus.

                          Ray,
                          All my tabs are the same, pale yellow color, but when selected, I change the tab color to a different shade, so I would notice it. Maybe that's the difference. If you have all different color tabs and you don't do something to distinguish the selected tab, then it wold not be as obvious.

                          see attached...
