Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Client Side XBasic a Grid Field to Variable

    I'm using version 10.5 with grid components in desktop feature pack installed. I'm trying to put data from a grid row into a desktop global variable. I've closely followed the videos:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwqw2OVMu2k

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ytuLQk1Eqo

    Following the above videos I used these:
    ====================================================
    On click event [Javascript - Attribute]:

    callXbasic({Grid.RowNumber});

    JavaScript Functions Declarations:

    function callXbasic(rowNum) {

    var get_parc = {grid.object}.getValue('G','PARC_CHR',rowNum);

    clientSideXbasicFunction(get_parc);

    }

    Client-Side XBasic:

    function clientSideXbasicFunction( varname as c )
    ui_msg_box("","hello from xbasic:" + varname)
    dim global var1 as c
    var1 = varname
    end function
    ====================================================

    Followed the instructions on this page and watched the two videos it references:

    http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...e+Xbasic+V10.5

    For the above videos I used these:
    ====================================================
    On click event [Javascript - Attribute]:

    myfunction();

    Client-Side Xbasic Functions tab:

    function myfunction() as v
    dim msg as c
    msg = "This is Xbasic"
    ui_msg_box("Notice",msg)
    end function
    ====================================================

    No matter which methods I use I keep getting this error:

    Error: The value of the property "[Function Name]" is null or undefined, not a Function object

    Error.jpg

    I've been working on this for days...any help would be much apprectiated.

    function myfunction()( as v
    try
    function myfunction as L()
    or
    function myfunction as v()

        Not even close. Try something like this:

        callXbasic();
        ---
        function callXbasic() {
        var rowNum = {grid.object}._selectedRow;
        var get_parc = {grid.object}.getValue('G','PARC_CHR',rowNum);
        {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',rowNum,'clientSideXbasicFunction','','get_parc='+get_parc);
        }
        ===
        function clientSideXbasicFunction(e as p)
        js = "alert('hello from xbasic: '" + js_escape(e.get_parc) + "';)"
        js = js + "var get_parc = "' + js_escape( e.get_parc) + "';"
        clientSideXbasicFunction = js
        end function

        To be honest with you, I'm not 100% sure the {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback(0 method is supported in v10, but I think it might be.

        EDIT:
        Oops! Your on the desktop. Ignore what I said. Not sure about how to address this on the desktop side.

          Re: Client Side XBasic a Grid Field to Variable

          Peter thanks for the reply. I can get the value I want into a javascript variable with this:

          rowNum = {Grid.RowNumber};
          var1 = function(rowNum) { return {grid.object}.getValue('G','PARC_CHR',rowNum); }(rowNum);
          alert ('This is Variable' + var1);

          Can you think of a way to get var1 into a desktop variable?

            Re: Client Side XBasic a Grid Field to Variable

            Carl,

            On the web it would be like what I did. You pass in the JS var1 into the callback. Then the xb function reads the "e" value for the var, like this:

            function clientSideXbasicFunction(e as p)
            dim global var1 as c = e.get_parc
            end function

            Except that the global var doesn't have a whole lot of meaning on the web side. I have never built an app w. WCD so I don't really know.

              Peter,

              The videos I referenced, at the beginning of my post, are exactly what I need but I can't get past the: "Error: The value of the property "[Function Name]" is null or undefined, not a Function object" Thanks for trying.

                Re: Client Side XBasic a Grid Field to Variable

                looks like you did everything like that in the video, my question is
                what version of internet explorer you are using, could be anything over ie version 8. starting version 9 of ie they have turned off action scripting. it is quite possible that is interfering with the grid you are trying.
                got to top of alpha window look under view, setting, preferences, actionscripting, working preview and set the value to yes ( may be blank or no)
                then try again. action scripting is needed to run what you need to do it in desktop.

                read the link below "how to enable xbasic" etc.,
                (does not matter what browser is your default browser, alpha uses internet explorer to show the grid in working preview till version 12)
                thanks for reading

                  I have IE version 11, but I've enabled active scripting in the browser. I'm using alpha 10.5, and do not have an 'actionscripting', setting in preferences.
