Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Windows 7 Error

I upgraded to windows 7. In webprojects, I can develop the component but when I try to load the component in the a5w file all I get is java script errors. Do I have to download the XP mode app to make V10 work?

    Thanks
    PHil

      Re: Windows 7 Error

Phil, working preview of internet compnents in V11 is broken with Internet Explorer 11. This is the method Alpha use to display web components on the desktop, so your options are ininstall V11 or upgrade to V12.

          Re: Windows 7 Error

Dave, yes I am working on the desktop version. Not what you mean by WCD? This is a5v10. The software works great on an XP system but not Win 7. When I try to load the component into the a5w file, all seems to go well but nothing displays on the webpage. A5 will not allow me to save the a5w page.

            Re: Windows 7 Error

WCD is Web Components on the Desktop.
As Jon said, a5 does not work well with IE11.
can you right click on the alpha5.exe and change it so you have xp3 compatibility? Properties, Compatibility??

My v12 runtime is set to win7 compatibility since I send it to clients. although it really is not needed with v12. My v8 is set to xp3 though.

I don't use a5w pages or wcd, so there are probably others with better ideas.

Is the server firing up ok?

              Re: Windows 7 Error

The WAS server is working fine on my windows 7 Pro. The problem seems to be when inserting the component within the a5w file on the Win 7 computer. Nothing will display after the insertion and I get an error when I try to save. See attached. I went ahead an resurrected my old Win XP version to create the components and a5w pages and uploading the info the WAS server on the Win 7 Pro computer....

I have been with Alpha since the early 90's but they have out priced themselves, I cannot afford what they are asking...it is sad....
