Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5v11 no more support

I called alpha and they told me after march 2020 they will no longer support a5v11. So if I need to reload Alpha I will not be able to activate. Where are the activation keys? or am I out of luck if I switch computer?
    Thanks for any help,
    Bob

    Re: a5v11 no more support

I emailed Alpha re buying a new Licence to install Alpha V11 onto a new computer as I was struggling to migrate the program from a very old computer. Richard replied to my email almost immediately offering me Alpha Anywhere. I explained that at 69 I was coming to the end of my career and that I just wanted to use Alpha as I had for many years. I did not get an answer. I emailed several more times all without an answer so I gave up.

What does this mean for existing v11 deployments using the v11 AWS?

        Re: a5v11 no more support

Gil, V11 should activate as long as the new computer has the same name as the old one. If that's not viable, could you create a VM on the new box just for Alpha?

Did you get to Wembley in '88 - smashing day (though probably not for you!)

          Re: a5v11 no more support

          Hi,

No I did not get to the Cup Final in 1988! We were kicked off the park!! :)

We are doing Ok this year! Should be Champions come May. I was born just a short walk from the ground and have followed them for over 60 years. More good times than bad :)

I am not sure what a VM is. I would be grateful for any help! Thanks for getting back to me,

          Gil

            Re: a5v11 no more support

Gil, Provided your new PC is powerful enough you can set up a Virtual Machine (VM) and install any operating system and software to run on it. Give it the same name as your old PC and you should be able to install and activate V11 as well.

Have a look at https://www.howtogeek.com/196060/beg...tual-machines/ for an idea of what's possible.

Champions come May - more likely March the rate you're picking up points. Have followed the Dons since '76 while still at a rugby playing school.

Some of the players in the 80s (Vinnie Jones of this parish) thought they were playing Rugby! :)

I didn't see this yesterday, so I posted in another part of the forum-

                      https://forum.alphasoftware.com/show...1-and-earlier)

about similar things. However, I had more questions and nobody responded.

Anyone care to address that thread?

I have had to buy a new PC and am trying to install A5v11 on it, I have the liscense number & activation code from the previous install.
I named the new PC same as the Old and tried installing A5v11 from file A5v11_Full_DL from 8/1/2013.
It installed and accepted the activation key, but then failed as it could not find "mfc100.dll".
I searched for it on the old PC but could not locate it.
Any suggestions as to what to do next ?
really out of my depth with this so any guidance gratefully received.
                        thx

I understand it's a pain to support a product they stopped working on over a half decade ago even though they had a sale just before releasing V12, but if they're not going to support it,
the least they could do is deactivate the activation function, which I'm guessing is broken again and causing trouble for my clients.
