Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browse row formatting

In V11, when I tried to reset the properties of an embedded browse onselected, the onfocus etc colours for rows, they kept resetting back to the default. I took it back to V10.5 and had no problem. Was I missing something?

    Re: Browse row formatting

It's exactly the same over here :-(

A lot of browse properties in v11 just don't 'stick'!

Looks like it might be a bug. Pretty important one. I guess I should take some time to learn style sheets while I wait for this one to get fixed

I had a similar problem in v10 pasting buttons from a form with a stylesheet to one that was different. The fix was to add a new style for the pasted object else it defaulted to the underlying stylesheet. Adding a new style for your embedded browse 'might' work...

              Folks,

Today I have submitted a formal bug report, together with screenshot and zipped db.
What I discovered, is that on the browse properties dialog, other tabs of this dialog do 'bleed' onto the 'browse' tab below the scroll lists for browse appearance and restricitions.

              Anybody else seen this?

                @ Robin,
                Thanks for this tip!
Assigned the browse in question a style from one of Alpha's inbuilt system stylesheets but unfortunately to no avail!

                @ all,
Here's a roundup of the inconsistencies encountered so far and reported to Alpha:

                - Row Selector Properties:
Just the settings for the row selector itself are kept, but not those for 'Selected' and 'Focused'.
These revert to the previous values, as soon as the dialog is closed!

                - Row Color Properties:
All settings done here do not stick. Both, the 'Enable' checkbox and the subsequent settings are lost as soon as one changes from row color 1 to row color 2 or vv.
'Use row colors' property is set on all columns...

                - Button bubble help not showing.

                - Skip rule (+ others?) from table field rules not always honoured!
Say, an embedded browse does have 2 columns: col#1 having an auto-generated ID, thus a skip = .T. in field rules
and col#2 having a value. When trying to enter a value in col#2, col#1 is scrolled away to the left, so that only col#2 is visible.

                - The bottom most row with the <new record> link is not visible - it only shows after selecting 'new record' from the toolbar, which is kinda ...late...

                - Content of dialog pages from other tabs on the browse properties dialog are 'bleeding' onto the 'browse' tab. Especially in two areas below the drop down check boxes.

Any other problems re embedded browses?

                TIA Charles

                  Re: Browse row formatting

It seems even in v10.5 that when in design mode, memory corruption can occur - one clue is the behavior of the xd genies. It may not be enough to just close and restart Alpha, you may also need to reboot.

                    Re: Browse row formatting

                    Hi Robin,

                    Thats what I figured.
But from what I gather, this corruption does occurr right upon launching the browse properties dialog!

Additionally I tried to not define the browse as an embedded browse in the form itself, but chose 'saved browse layout' instead. But this showed the exact same problems!
The only thing I can say is, that it's always the content of the last tab selected, before going to the browse tab of the dialog.

Alpha needs to fix this asap imho - how can one design a decent app without a functioning browse?
