Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date_to_calendar Cancel valuel

    What's the problem with the following. I want CANCEL to result in no change or END the process.

    date_string = ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",dtoc(date()))

    if date_string <> "" then
    Activities:Goal_Date.value = ctod(date_string)
    parentform.commit()
    end if

    END

    -----------

    The above always enter today's date. What value does the CANCEL button give?

    Thanks ~ Tom

    I suppose it means cancel changing the value.

    Your script would work if you used

    date_string = ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",dtoc({}))

      Stan,

      I want the default value to be today's date, dtoc(date() ); but if CANCEL is selected I want the process to END.

          This also displays today's date highlighted but if cancel is selected then the result is blank

          ?ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",null_value())
          = ""

              Still thinking about this: ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",null_value())

              What if I wanted to pass in a default date, then test for cancel being pressed?

                Either the documentation is wrong or you've found an undocumented feature.

                  In the other ui functions, pressing cancel clears the result. This does not seem to be the case here once a value is passed in. Perhaps it was an oversight by the developer.

                    Re: Date_to_calendar Cancel valuel

                    I think it will work the way you want if you reset the date_string variable to null just before you use the ui....

                    date_string = ""
                    date_string = ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",dtoc(date()))
                    if date_string <> "" then
                    Activities:Goal_Date.value = ctod(date_string)
                    parentform.commit()
                    end if

                    Cancel here and the date string remains null. Probably means the date_string variable was keeping, as it should, any previously chosen value.

                      Stan,

                      Nope. That doesn't work, but I like the idea of being able to pass a date to the calendar. But mostly, I want to be able to pick from a calendar presentation and have cancel result in ""

                        I think you do have a reportable issue since you are seeing the behavior in V11. I'm assuming V11 is following what V10 does below.

                        V8

                        Code:
                        date_string = ""
                        date_string = ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",dtoc(date()))

                        ' cancel chosen
                        ? date_string
                        = ""
                        V10
                        Code:
                        date_string = ""
                        date_string = ui_get_date_calendar("Calendar",dtoc(date()))

                        ' cancel chosen
                        ? date_string
                        = "01/17/2012"

                              Hi Tom P.

                              The code for that function is basically an XBasic wrapper that uses a5_GetDateHTML() if a style is set, or a5_calendar() if a blank style.

                              If you use a5_GetDateHTML(), with or without a style, it works perfectly returning a null string "" when cancelled. I suggest you just use this.

                              a5_calendar() does not handle the cancel button and close box X correctly.
                              Regards,
