Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Form modal or modeless flag

    Tom.
I STILL cant achieve what what is required. As does on the toolbar.

Question: How to get buttons on a form to appear (and disappear) EXACTLY as, and when the A5 toolbar options for the same tasks do.
    A) When the form opens have a button to press for EDIT
    B) When F3 or EDIT is pressed replace it with a button CANCEL
and C) either at B or when editing begins, as the button to SAVE
See the picture if I am still unclear.

Should I start a new thread?

I thought that would be OK
Well the user wants some way to know that they can now begin editing. They need the CANCEL in case they have no editing to make. then the only way is to make a dummy edit and then erase it. Or go to another record and back. I can see the point, its not intuitive.
Besides that I am converting them from previous software that worked this way. I dont want to tell them I cant.
They feel they look at a blank screen after pressing F3 ot the button.
I had put that text in the default to try help with that - it says to them "You can start editing now"

Re: Form modal or modeless flag

I took another run at it and cannot do it using the conditional object.

In my example I put a blinking cursor in the first field, to alert them that the keyboard is active and ready for input. For most folks that's sufficient "to know they can begin editing".

If they insist on the behavior you describe I suggest you find out how much more money they can put in the development budget to cover your time. Then I'd use an approach that does not use the conditional object. I'd suppress display of the toolbar. I'd give them CRUD buttons. Each button would show or hide other buttons depending on context. i.e. the Save and Cancel buttons would be hidden onInit. But visible if user clicks the Enter button, or the Change button., etc. and so on.

If I can open the screen displaying "EDIT F3" button then I will use actvate() to indicate. It is perfectly acceptable at that point. Thanks Tom
Do you think this is unusual to use the VIEWing screen to switch to edit?

Sorry, you've lost me again. Isn't that what my example does?

Yes your version does - I stupidly had then changed the condition and have been working with that.
              Me Klutz

I copied your changes to my full version - and it didn't work like yours - thats what threw me I must adopt all your changes.
I kept the condition as I had them because they are instantly responsive - but may be preventing the EDIT on startup

              Thanks Tom.
The users went live in the first modules and I'm trying to ready an update to quell the mumbling over this perceived unreliability of the editing. You know the result - everything that goes wrong is caused by faulty programs.

Ok, let me know what specific help you need. The example I uploaded here displays the Edit F3 button when the form opens. If that's not what you're saying try again, or give me a call on skype. my skype handle is tomconejr2
