Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report filter on half works

    I have something very odd going on with a report.

    If I run this report using the following xbasic code:
    Code:
    query.filter = "(between(date,ctod(\"01/24/2013\"),ctod(\"01/24/2013\")) )  .and. (owner = \"Ron Hall\"  )"
    query.order = "owner"

    :Report.Preview("Daily_Calndr",query.filter,query.order)
    The report runs but the filter equation after the .and. does not work. If I change the query.filter to be just
    Code:
    owner=\Ron Hall\
    owner=\Ron Hall\
    the filter expression does not work.

    In all cases, I used the Alpha genie to create the filter expressions.

    If I place this expression hard coded into the report, Report->Select Records->Filter,
    Code:
    between(date,ctod("01/24/2013"),ctod("01/24/2013")) .and. owner = "Ron Hall"
    the filter expression works.

    But obviously I do not want to do this as the real expression is built from variables and the dates an owners will be changing.

    Table structure of the reports table

    Code:
    Client_Id		Character	6	0
    Appointment_Id	Character	5	0
    Date			Date		8	0
    Time			ShortTime	9	0
    Notes			Memo		10	0
    Reminder_Date	Date		8	0
    Goal			Character	25	0
    Completed		Logical	1	0
    Owner		Character	25	0
    Name			Character	60	0
    What am I missing?

    I would close Alpha and restart or shut down the machine and restart. Would seem that something is sticking in memory that you aren't seeing.

      I tried all of those suggestions. I agree, to me it appears something is stuck someplace, yet when hard coded, the report runs correctly.

      That's why I had the genie build the xbasic code to preview the report. When I run the xbaic code, the report is filtered by date, but the report shows all of the owners.
      Hard code the report, shows the one date and the one owner.

      All my other reports seem to work OK.

        Are you able to eliminate any sensitive data and attach a sample table? Have you tried the same in another version of Alpha?

          To my way of thinking the quote marks look unbalanced here. Shouldn't it be:

          Code:
          "owner=\"Ron Hall\" [COLOR="#FF0000"]"[/COLOR]
          -- tom

            Tom, you are correct. It was a misprint on my part.

            Stan, I took your suggestion. I created an empty workspace and copied the table with all the records, layouts, etc to the empty workspace.

            The report works properly in the new workspace.

            Now I just need to figure out what the difference is between the original workspace and the new besides about 100 scripts, bunches of tables, forms, etc.....
