Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Nested iif, else, then Calculated Field

This nested calculated field doesn't work. I think all calculated fields work OK except the BalDue field. It is set up like the other calculated fields so I suspect it may be something other than the expression.

    iif(Exempt="Stc",Cityrate*Amount+Amount,iif(Exempt="Yes",Amount,Cityrate+Staterate+Specialrate+Countyrate*Amount+Amount-Paid_Amount))

Condition 1. If Exempt = "Stc", multiply the Cityrate by the Amount, add the Amount and subtract the Paid_Amount

Condition 2. If Exempt = "Yes", show the value in the Amount field minus the Paid_Amount field

If neither, then add the four tax rate fields together, multiply that by the Amount, add the Amount and subtract the Paid_Amount

Attached is a small zip file. Well, almost. I created a zip file with the Tool menu and I can select the file to upload. But, that's where it stops. I get a red ! and can't go any further with it.

Re: Nested iif, else, then Calculated Field

    What about Case() eg:

    Case(Exempt="Stc",(Cityrate*Amount)+Amount,Exempt="Yes",Amount,Exempt<>"Stc".or.Exempt<>"Yes",(((Cityrate+Staterate+Specialrate+Countyrate)*Amount)+Amount)-Paid_Amount)

I aslo added some brackets based on the logic of your statement. I am not sure about the first and second cases as I cannot see where you minuse the paid amount on those statements?

Thanks for your quick response, Mark,

I tried your suggestion but it does the same as mine. It does not subtract the paid_amount field which is a digital with 2 decimals.

Re: Nested iif, else, then Calculated Field

It's gotta be in the expression because if Exempt = either Stc or Yes, the calculated field doesn't work. If exempt = NO, it does work.

              I did this +(Paid_Amount))

              Still the same.

              Al, You should have it.

If I change the value in the Cityrate field, it changes the values as it should. If I change the Paid_Amount value, nothing changes. Again, that's if the Exempt value is STC or Yes.

Update: If I change Exempt from Stc yo Yes or to No, the BalDue field changes to include the right amount of sales tax. Even though I change the value in the Paid_Amount field that amount is not evaluated. It's as if the Paid_Amount field is not there.

So I put it on my server and put a link in the first post.

                    Hi Mark,

It doesn't like that either, Bad Expression Character.

Al, Not sure what you did but nothing changed.

It still won't recognize the Paid_Amount field.

                        Mark,
                        This
                        Code:
                        Case(Exempt="Stc",(((Cityrate*Amount)+Amount)-Paid_Amount,Exempt="Yes",Amount-Paid_Amount,Exempt<>"Stc".or.Exempt<>"Yes",(((Cityrate+Staterate+Specialrate+Countyrate)*Amount)+Amount)-Paid_Amount)
                        can be reduced to this

                        Code:
                        Case(Exempt="Stc",(Cityrate*Amount),Exempt="Yes",0,.t.,(Cityrate+Staterate+Specialrate+Countyrate)*Amount)+ Amount-Paid_Amount
or using if this. Which it turns out is the same as Ken's TtlTaxAmt calc with +Amount-Paid_Amount added

                        Code:
                        if(Exempt="Stc",Cityrate*Amount,if(Exempt="Yes",0,(Cityrate+Staterate+Specialrate+Countyrate)*Amount))+Amount-Paid_Amount

                          Arrrrrg, Still an incomplete expression.

                          But....Tim,

Using the expression for Amount due and add inf the -Paid_Amount, seems to work.
