Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

2 buttons, same script. 1 works, the other does not.

I am utterly baffled. I have spent the better part of 2 days trying to figure this out and have no logical explanation. Originally my goal was to create a form with 3 rows of 4 buttons each. Each button represents a parts picker (a person) in our warehouse picking orders. Each button has a on press event that has a few lines of code that identifies the picker based on the button then runs a script. The script prompts for a pick ticket number and then refreshes a passive link table pulling data from a IBM AS400. It then appends that table to another table and loops through this process to create a consolidated/wave pick ticket. Each button has the exact same code except the few lines that identifies the picker and then runs the exact same script. The first button works flawlessly every time, over and over and over. The second button will refresh the passive table 1 time for the first pick ticket and then it will not refresh the table for subsequent tickets. It gives you the impression that is is working, but it will not. If I now click the first button it will fail the first time. The second time through a bunch of times work flawlessly.

So, i created a new form with 2 buttons. each button's on push event does the same thing, plays the script. Button1 works without issue, over and over. Button2 does the same thing as described above. So, i created another form. 1 button, either script works fine. I then added second button, same as before.

    Alan,

I cannot explain the results you're getting. However, the script you describe may be suffering from timing issues related to windows multi-tasking the disk activity. Its a mistake to assume that each statement in a script will be processed to completion before the next statement is processed. The only way to assure that is to write your script using functions. This has been discussed here and in other desktop forums many times.

      Tom,

Do you happen to know how to find one of the threads you mentioned? I searched and got a lot of threads.

      Thanks!

        Tom,

Why would both scripts work flawlessly when executed from the code tab? Neither, they are identical, fail. It is only when they are placed on a button on a form. Both work there when there is only 1 button. Add the second button, and it does not work.

The difference is context. Time to see the script(s).
          There can be only one.
