Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to automatically Update a value in the same table with same product description

    I have a product table and as an example i have these 5 fields
    ProductId
    Name
    Desc
    Cost
    Price

    An example Data would be

    ProductID =1
    Name = Pen
    Desc = Pen/PC
    Cost= 100
    PRice = 6

    ProductID =2
    Name = Pen
    Desc = Pen/Box
    Cost=50
    PRice = 100

    I want to update either the Cost of both items in a form and automatically update the Cost to be the same on both Items.
    Lets say I will update the cost of ProductId 2 from 50 to 200, when I save this change I want to automatically update the cost of ProductId 1 from 100 to the cost of Productid 2 which is now 150. Both items now have suppose to be 150 as the cost. How do I do this in xbasic code so that it will execute on the OnDepart event of the Cost Field? Thanks!

    What part are you having trouble with? Do you know how to open tables? Do you know how to begin and end a change in a record? Do you know how to locate a specific record?

    Or do you just want someone to write a script for you?
    There can be only one.

      Thank you Stan for asking. Here is my code.

      dim prad as p
      dim shared query as p
      dim shared query.filter as c
      dim shared query.order as c
      dim shared query.options as c
      debug(1)
      prad = table.open("tblprod",FILE_RW_SHARED)
      query.filter="Item_type='" +cProd + "'"
      query.order=""
      query.options="T"
      prad.query_create()
      prad.fetch_first()

      while .not. prad.fetch_eof()
      prad.change_begin()
      prad.supprice = nSupprice
      prad.change_end(.t.)
      prad.fetch_next()
      end while

      I am having trouble editing what I want to change in the tblprod table. I want to change the same field with the current value on the the same table on another record with the same product name. It has an error that it cannot change because the table is being locked.
      probably because I am on the same form editing the field.What should I do to edit the value for a product with the same name as the one just edited?

        Jet
        Suggestions:
        If you are doing this from an event on a form in edit mode. That record will be locked.
        I would first try place a skip in the price edit loop for the record you have just edited the price on.

        If still not going through, use another method, like commit the form and/or have a button to update all prices for the item description
        or set a flag to this if changed and on the record save - just off the top of my head first before setting up an example to try.

        And if you are doing this silently on every record edit I would also create an index on product item for speed improvement over query. I know speed is one of your hassles.

          Thank you very much Ray for the suggestion,very helpful information, it works perfectly when I put the code on a button. I am planning to put it on field rule events so that users won't have to press the button when a change is made and see if it works too!
